Winter is here and even though I haven't seen any snow, the cold has settled in quite well. Still hoping to enjoy at least a few snowflakes and maybe a white Christmas ❄️

Silver and gold sketchbook spread✨️

I found some silver and golden coloured pencils laying around and thought to give them a try. The paper from my sketchbook isn't the best, so I really had to push hard or have the pencil really sharp in order to make a mark. In reality both colours have a faint shimmer, but, sadly, it doesn't show in the scan.

I am really proud of the final outcome and that I have managed to fill in some more pages in the sketchbook. The goal is to finish my first sketchbook ever.

Summer in the Netherlands is not exactly what you would expect. So once you see clear sky and/or a ray of sun, you go for it and enjoy it however you can.

A view from the window

It's funny how a view can change and I am not talking of the look of it, rather your perception of it. Through the lens of my childhood, my view from the window was the thing I loved most. Seeing the ever changing sky, storms, snow, passing birds, lights and so much more.

However, nowadays, something changed... I changed and my view is altered. Makes me rather sad. It feels as bit by bit from my past self is slipping away. Change is good, but you are allowed to grieve after something you had and enjoyed.

A Window in Space 🌌

This is an idea that has been in the making for quite some time. I think the idea popped into my mind when I was randomly listening to David Bowie's "Starman".

It stayed only as a sketch for quite a long time, until I managed to kick myself out of procrastination. After making a nice and clean lineart, I had to decide on a medium. That proved much more difficult than expected.

I went with three mediums in the end: coloured pencils, ink and mixed media. All of them had their advantages and disadvantages. Through this experience I've learned what mediums I quite enjoy and would like to get better at. It has been a fun exercise that has made me more open to create further on.

My favourite is the first one in coloured pencils. Which one is yours? 🌿

It all started with an idea and a sketch. Then one day I finally wanted to bring the sketch to life and then... I had to choose my medium.

Choosing a medium can be challenging, especially at the beginning. I love traditional mediums, but they can be difficult go work with.

Fast-forward to today and I have decides to create multiple versions of this artwork. One with mixed media (watercolour, gouache and colored pencils), one with colored pencils only and, lastly, one with fineliners only.

It can sound time-consuming, but I am trying to look at it as a training for my skills and to discover what I enjoy most. It's a journey that I am learning to love and not rush myself.
