Sekia,

Do you want me to tell them about how you took us back to school shopping & a scary movie in middle school, or how we shared Chloe perfume right before I walked down the aisle to get married? I didn’t have a mentor/big sister before you… I lost a sister and a safe space yesterday. What do you want me to say?

I could talk all day about you me and hair but it’s always been bigger than that. Friends who didn’t know you personally knew The Hair Mystro through my hair. I didn’t realize how much i followed you around from shop to shop but I sure did. How many of us got to watch you beam when you explained what “Pilus” meant or when yall took that trip to India for LnS?? When someone would call/come in you haven’t seen you’d go “Heyyyyy!” and smile with your whole entire face. The total was always “a million dollars” and the salon community was a family in itself…

There’s a difference in watching somebody grow up and being a part of their upbringing, you were there. Pre bakery, post college… kids you were there. Omg you supported the mess outta Honeecakes Bakery! You’re the reason i became “Ms. Drea” the mentor. You took me under your wing on a TSAKS teen retreat & never missed a major milestone in my life, and I yours. I feel like the little girl on that stairwell right now tbh.

You didn’t miss a moment to talk about Jesus or Jay Z (remember the WTT tour in the suites??) You loved the life you were building in Tampa. You were proud of everybody in your circle and we felt it often. You were a boss in business but you judged friendships with your heart.

Sekia, you were a crybaby too so let me rock when the tears fall. I’m just telling them what YOU already knew, and I’m forever grateful for our time. You left your mark here, now take your seat next to Him. I can’t box with God, and you wouldn’t want me to but it hurts… whew…

Love you, I’ll always be your Doll 🧡

A love note to the @suitland2006 Class of 2006,

There would be no @honeecakesbakery without you, full stop. I was just a high school junior taking an elective course. Who knew????

20 years later is not something I’ve processed in full yet, but when committee announced the reunion, it was a no brainer that I’d volunteer my talents for the farewell brunch on Sunday.

Because why would I not?? Yall were all there when I was winning those competitions. Yall were there when I wrote up Fossett in the school paper for not supporting the entrepreneurship program. Yall were there when i was skipping Friday night games to bake. Yall witnessed myself and others create and sustain businesses from that class that are still in operation til this day.

THANK YOU Mommy & Daddy for letting me move in for the wknd wreck your kitchen & nerves like old times. Thank you @brittany619 & committee for the call. Thank you @theelevatedexperience_ for beautifully displaying my work.

Thank you class of 06 for supporting me throughout the years, and especially this wknd. Make sure you’re following @honeecakesbakery! Happy 20th to us✨

This weekend was special for so many reasons, the recaps don’t do it justice.

A three day 20th class reunion and yall showed OUT‼️‼️

The invigorating sense of community was in overflow. Telling your classmates you’re proud of them in person meant so much to so many, myself included. The new principal, former teachers and more all celebrated with us! We attempted to remember steps & cheers, FTed everybody on some “where are you? Get here!”, donated $1000 back to Suitland and acted like our ‘06 selves for three days straight… it felt GOOD ✨

To the @suitland2006 committee, come get these flowers💐

Lastly, yall loved on @honeecakesbakery so crazy i have to do a separate thank post from my business page. Catering the dessert table 20 years later was an absolute honor, and there were no leftovers.

Everybody drink some water, and I’ll see yall in LA, NY, and whenever we all pop out again here at home.
