Greetings friends and #instafamily,

If you’ve been following my music, you may have noticed that I have released one song every year since 2023. Though this may seem like a strange and ill-advised marketing strategy, I was actually just putting out each song as it was finished. They were all mostly recorded in 2023 before I moved to nyc, but for whatever reason some of em took quite a bit longer than others to finish, resulting in the one-song-per-year phenomenon.

But the original intention was for them to be an EP together, not just standalone singles. And now that the last song is out I gotta say… they still feel a lot like an EP to me. It was an interesting experiment just releasing them as I went along, not without some gratifying aspects for sure. But my main takeaway is that songs are generally best enjoyed as a part of a body of work. Context is nice and cool.

So now that the last of these songs finally made its way out into the world, I would like to encourage anyone interested to listen front to back in this sequence:

1. Poolside
2. Camera
3. In the weeds

For your listening convenience, I made a playlist called “This is kind of an EP”, consisting of said songs in said sequence.

Lastly, I’d like to give one more big thanks to all the lovely legends who contributed to this batch of songs. All were indispensable to the project. And in the spirit of the recent release of “Camera”, here are some pictures I’ve taken of said lovely legends over the years with cameras (mostly). Full credits in the comments due to character count related issues.

Thanks all for reading/listening. Much love. Full-length LP coming 2035 or so.

“Camera” is out everywhere📸👽🤘

The last of the singles I recorded mostly in Seattle and Anacortes before moving to Brooklyn and the eldest of the bunch. Wrote this track in late 2019 but couldn’t get it feeling quite right on the record until bringing it to the all-star band (Evan House, Stephen Vincent Ibanez Jr., and Sam Peterson) in 2022.

Thanks a ton to everyone who contributed and pushed me to keep trying to solve the puzzle of this song throughout all those years. Remember kids, release your songs as fast as possible after writing them or you’ll end up like me

CREDITS:

Jason Altshuler ( @jasonaltshuler ): pedal steel

Evan House ( @evanahouse ): drums, additional production

Alex Heubel (@trusty_gusty ): synthesizer, additional production

Stephen Vincent Ibanez Jr. ( @oddy_knocky_ ): guitar, bass, additional production

Levi Nattrass: guitar, banjo, vocals, synthesizer, percussion

Sam Peterson ( @donpianoworld ): guitar, additional production

Next friday we’re playing a special acoustic trio set in ridgewood w @boyscottsocialmediamaniac and “squidney fish”, who is probably a very fringe, underground artist that you’ve never heard of before. I definitely have never heard of them and have no idea what my favorite songs of their’s are and definitely do not hope that they play said songs at this show because I don’t even know what they are 🤔🤔🤔
