Yale’s Dante Reno is this week’s nominee for the 2026 Capital One Orange Bowl-FWAA Courage Award. Reno, a junior quarterback, led the Bulldogs to a 41-24 win over Merrimack just one day after his father, former Yale coach Tony Reno, passed away.

"I know [Tony], and I know my dad," Dante Reno said after the game. "He would want nothing [more] than for me to go out there and play, not miss practice. Go out there, go to school, be around the guys. We have a culture here that not everybody has in the country." by @dreno10

Dante Reno gave Yale a performance that meant so much more than football ❤️

One day after losing his father, Tony, Dante threw for 298 yards and four touchdowns, helping Yale erase a 21–7 deficit to beat Merrimack 41–24.

His dad spent 14 seasons leading that same program, winning five Ivy League championships and shaping generations of players. For his son to take the field in those colors while carrying that grief is difficult to put into words.

Nothing replaces his dad. But what a way to honor him.
