As my 3rd year here comes to an end, I have to admit that moving abroad was an absolute turning point. The moment you move abroad, you no longer fully belong somewhere. Your heart splits between two cities, on one hand your home city where your family and friends are, your comfort zone, your childhood memories and where you speak from the heart. On the other hand the city where your dreams and new home are. The home you’ve created for yourself, building it little by little and filling it with people you chose to be part of it, the place where you got to see the world through a different lens and experience new things. Whenever I’m abroad I miss my family and the warmth in which they filled our home, I miss my friends, I miss running to my mom when things get overwhelming just to cry in her arms. I miss family gatherings every friday, having breakfast with the sound of mosques in background for friday prayer, I miss my humor, being funny and fully myself with no language barriers. But when I’m home I miss the people I chose to be my family abroad, I miss my own lifestyle and living with my own rythm, being impulsive, always discovering something or somewhere new. I miss that feeling of proudness and independence everytime I get adult things done on my own, the joy after surviving another hard day. I miss days off after a long week with just me and my snacks watching a movie. Wherever I go there’s always something missing stopping the fulfilment, a feeling no one would understand but those whose home was a little too small for their dreams too. by @dresscodesbynour
