Answer: This is called mouth brooding and is an act of parental care. The male Jawfish will hold fertilized eggs in his mouth until they are ready to hatch, and, as seen in this video, will aerate his eggs by quickly spitting the eggs out and sucking them back in to ensure that they are getting enough oxygen. Additionally, Banded Jawfish will incubate their eggs for 7 to 10 days, during which time they will regularly abstain from eating anything at all!🤿🌊

Wild Red Wolf snacking on a rodent 🐺🌲

This remarkable species has faced incredible hardship since the 1970s, primarily due to humans. In 1987, the estimated population of wild Red Wolves was only 7, according to @usfws. Thankfully, these numbers have increased, reaching an estimated 28-31 in 2025, but this species still needs our support and attention. Head over to @usfws and check out their Red Wolf Recovery Program to learn more about the conservation efforts in place to help save this incredible species.

How me and all my friends are hanging😎🦇

On a more serious note, bats are an essential part of our ecosystem, but over 50% of North American bat species are listed as endangered as of 2024 (according to Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies). Due to various human activities, such as habitat destruction and climate change, bats have become one of the most endangered mammals in North America and could be facing extinction in only 15 years.

The good news is that you can do a few simple things TODAY to help support this incredible species:
• Spread the word! Tell your friends and family and help recruit people to their cause.
• Turn off unnecessary lights.
• Reduce the use of pesticides in your yard.
• Install a bat box to provide shelter.
• Remove unwanted bats humanely.

Did you know that bait balls typically occur as a last resort defense mechanism for small fish when a predator is nearby? When in the open water with no rocks or coral to take cover under, these small fish will organize into a dense spherical shape, exposing as few fish as possible to the predator on their tail. While this strategy does minimize risk for individual fish, it also consolidates all the prey into a small area that predators will regularly still choose to attack, and often times swim or fly away from with a tasty meal.🐟🌊
