@toolmusic - The Patient

Tool, for me, is the artistic neutral ground of music that embodies a hopeless, downward spiral, the self validation of negative thoughts and emotions, the inability to break negative thinking patterns, and on the flip side, the launch pad of breaking the cycle of these thoughts, having optimism, something to hold on to, to live for and grow as a person for. For Maynard, it seems it’s wine and psychedelic voyages. I’m now sober, but have ventured into many hallucinogenic experiences myself, and found some breakthrough, some healing, but also a propulsion of idleness and even mental devolvement, had I continued to just trip the fuck out constantly.

But the lyrics of this song, “if there were no rewards to reap, no loving embrace to see me through this tedious path I’ve chosen here, I certainly would’ve walked away by now”, tell me a story that coincides with mine. If you didn’t have goals, if you didn’t have love, what would be the fucking point to any of this? In this I see the optimism of Maynard’s journey and use it to fuel my own progress towards goals, healing from trauma, and accepting and spreading love in the best way I can. Goals and love aren’t something you’re just given in life most the time. It’s something you work for, and something you earn. taken in Salt Lake City, Utah by @drewcifix

Who doesn’t enjoy some corny ass G Eazy every now and then? I’m not a big r&b guy honestly but I do have mad props for the vocal chops it requires, and do my best to get on that level when I sing along to songs like this that take me back to high school. This songs called Drifting by G-Eazy feat. Torey Lanez and Chris Brown. Yes, I had to use a small amount of auto tune to not sound like a dying, tone deaf animal. Don’t know why I wanted to share this song but why not lol. taken in Salt Lake City, Utah by @drewcifix

I have 2 new songs up on all platforms, ones very nice and acoustic, the other is sheer destruction. Would mean the world if you gave them a listen. If you’re tired of Luke Bryan’s lazy lyricism, I do recommend you listen to and decipher these poetic nightmares I’ve had the torturous joy of creating. Thank you 🫶🏼 links in bio! by @drewcifix

This one’s for those hardcore kids. Carry On - Off My Chest, a timeless relic from 2001 off of what I think is one of the best hardcore albums of all time. I used to try to do the fry, deathcore style screaming as a teenager, and though just straight yelling until your voice breaks in this hardcore style is less sustainable and practical for the throat (unless you have magical powers like Bryan Garris) I love it, and it’s the technique I’ve preferred for all my music. I’m more of a singer than a screamer these days, but on those moody days, I still scream this shit on the highway and get it off my chest. This music is less about technique and perfection, and more about raw energy, passion, and making yourself heard, though the technique and perfection of the thunderous guitars and drums make this shit peak. Hope you enjoy! #hardcore taken in Salt Lake City, Utah by @drewcifix

Issues, “Get It Right”, this song just has one of those classic grooves and funk that make you rock, and is supercharged by destructive drop tuned guitar riffs and lyrics teeming with intense sexual energy.

Tyler Carter wrote and sang these sexy ass lyrics for “Get It Right”, but didn’t get it right in the sense that obsessive sexual desire can be one of the most destructive things to humans when left unchecked, as proven by his grooming and sexual misconduct allegations, and the eventual collapse of the band. We’ve all made mistakes, but must do our best to make things right with others, with ourselves, and with God, so we can heal with forgiveness, aspire to be better people, and ultimately, get it right.

Issues was always one of my favorite bands and their legacy will live on forever! #issues taken in Salt Lake City, Utah by @drewcifix

I went to see Mastodon and Gojira by myself in 2023, none of my raver friends back then really cared for throwing hands in metal pits and wanted to come with me, even though I was dragged to every riddim and tear out show on the planet. But I wanted to see some progressive metal titans so I took my anxious self out for a solo date, got deep in the pit, and head banged my ass off for hours. They played this song, and a kid next to me was screaming every word. I could feel his relatability to the lyrics through the passion and growl of his voice, and fell in love with the song more so through his performance than the bands. But I indeed love this song and the duality of vocals from drummer Brann Dailor and bassist Troy Sanders. @mastodonrocks has such rage and raw power behind their music. Hope you enjoy!🤘🏼 #vocalperformance taken in Salt Lake City, Utah by @drewcifix
