A few weeks ago, I broke my solo singing cherry at Haddonfield UMC, where I've been since June.

This is the beautiful, yet simple Tree Song by Ken Medema. With the wonderfully sensitive Matt Smith on the organ.

A perfect song for the fall. A perfect escape from the busyness and craziness of our hectic lives. A reminder to take time to focus on the simple things in life.

Being a church-singing Jew is a fun experience, but it's also a great side hustle for performers, and it doesn't have to be limited to classical singers (theatre folk, I'm speaking to you!) by @drewduboff

How many talented singers quit because they think they "didn't make it"?

Maybe it's time we redefine success.

👇 Tell me: What does "making it" mean to YOU?

I spent a lot of time making this graphic in Canva, so please don’t scroll.

The next month and a half will be a very busy time for me. 4 operas in 4 languages, plus rehearsals for Fiddler on the Roof in the fall.

I recently started a Bass Section Leader position at Haddonfield UMC (and the NJ MasterChorale) and I’ll be a ringer for the high holiday services at Temple Har Shalom.

I’ve also sang, subbed, been hired as a ringer for about 20 churches/concerts over the past 12 months across NJ, PA, NYC, MD, and DE.

I made my NYC opera debut this year. I learned the Cyrillic alphabet. I sang in Mandarin and Korean. Yes, really.

And, somewhere along the way, I finally started to understand something that took me years to believe.

Success in the arts is not linear.

I didn’t get a BFA or a MM.

In fact, at a young and formative age, I was told I couldn’t match pitch. That did more than affect my singing. It affected the way I saw myself.

So, I spent years at it. Thousands of dollars of my own money on lessons, coaching, and training. All to become a better singer.

It finally feels like I’m getting somewhere.

I talked about some of that journey with Annie Calvaneso on her podcast, Success Through Scars.

But, there’s another realization that has been increasingly important to me.

A lot of my classical singer friends are finding themselves looking toward musical theatre because the opera career pipeline can take years–oftentimes, more than a decade–to cultivate.

I actually went in the opposite direction.

I took what musical theatre taught me about storytelling and brought it back to opera.

Because in 2026, beautiful singing is NOT enough.

It’s not enough in opera.

It’s not enough in musical theatre.

It’s about the story.

You could show up to an audition and find 25+ sopranos who can all technically execute the music. And then everyone watches in horror when the actor with the supposedly “inferior” voice books the role because they gave the strongest characterization.

It happens all the time.

An imperfect performance with compelling storytelling can be far more believable than a technically flawless performance that doesn’t make us believe anything. by @drewduboff

Stepping into the world of Anatevka!

Excited to share that rehearsals have officially begun for Fiddler on the Roof at Candlelight Theatre, where I'll be appearing as Avram. Looking forward to bringing this timeless story of family, faith, tradition, and community to life with an incredible cast and creative team.

See you in Anatevka!

Excited to sing in NYC tonight as a Bass 2 with the Asian Rainbow Chorus, singing a variety of repertoire ranging from Lauridsen's Dirait-on, a Total Praise & Amazing Grace remix, Laufey's From the Start, and selections in Mandarin and Korean, some of which are special commissions. Thanks for having me Maizi Li! by @drewduboff

Thrilled to share my next project coming up in the fall! Excited to return to Anatevka for the 3rd time, this time as Avram, as I make my debut with The Candlelight Theatre in Delaware. The show runs for 22 performances between September 18 and October 25.

In honor of Pride month, I wanted to share this recording of the brilliant and heartrending aria from Jake Heggie's Out of Darkness: Two Remain -- A Hundred Thousand Stars.

Turn the audio on!

I recently revisited it for an audition this weekend after performing it in a recital a few years back.

The song's title refers to the 100,000 gay people who perished during the Holocaust. It's one of my favorite blends of chamber opera and musical theatre out there. Inspired by Holocaust activist Gad Beck's Nazi Berlin-era lover, Manfred Lewin. In the opera, Beck (older, present day) is visited by the spirit of his lover.

Enjoy!

When we plan goals, we often wonder what happens if we don't achieve our goals.
The truth is that we need to embrace failure.
Failing and making a mistake are what drive us to future success.
I was listening to the new Design Your Dream Life podcast by @natalierbacon yesterday and it reminded me of this quote from @therealkiyosaki "Every time you quit, someone else gets your prize. Every time you make a mistake, you get closer to yours." Whatever you do, don't quit. Don't give up.

Especially on yourself.
If you make a mistake, make it boldly. Commit with confidence.
Be intentional about your choices, even if they turn out to be wrong.

Seize the day because no one else can for you.
It's time to own your future and don't be afraid to make a mistake on your way.

Yesterday, I met my boss in person!
This may seem like a strange concept, but when you work as a virtual assistant, you don't see your boss every day when you go into work.

Working for Alex and Lauren has been an absolute pleasure and I continue to learn more every day.
These two seriously know what they're doing and will continue to turn a Tinder match into the most magnificent things.
Thanks for stopping by in RI!
