During All-Star Weekend, the conversation went deeper than basketball.

Our mentorship topic was “Controlling the controllable.”

You can’t control everything in life or in the game, but you can control your mindset, effort, and discipline.

All-Star Weekend was special! But what meant the most was watching these young athletes step into bigger moments.

Grateful to collaborate with amazing organizations that care about more than performance. This experience blended skill work with real-life conversations that will stick far beyond one event.

🎤 Interview with Angela Culpepper

All Star 2026 Los Angeles – Premium Basketball Experience
Los Angeles Southwest College

Mynt:
This is a great event — an All-Star experience for youth ages 10 to 14. How did you decide on that specific age group?
Angela Culpepper:
That’s the age where kids are open and can easily be groomed to receive what we have to share. We want to motivate them early, encourage them to listen to mentors, listen to their parents, stay in school, and do a good job.

Mynt:
For students who may not see college as their path — or who feel they aren’t academically strong but have a particular skill — what encouragement would you offer them, especially since Southwest provides technical and career-focused programs?

Angela Culpepper:
Southwest College is free. You can enroll without paying anything and take classes. Even if you don’t want to go to college, at least come here and take an introductory class. It might change your mind. We have mentors here who will help you as well. Pick a career you’re passionate about and pursue that. Whatever you’re passionate about, you can do it.

Mynt:
As President of the Drew League Foundation, can you share what that role means to you?
Angela Culpepper:
Being President of the Drew League Foundation is very rewarding and exciting, especially when young people go on to college or into professions and come back and say, “Ms. Angela, because of what you and the mentors did for me…” Many of them return to volunteer. We have a Community Day every year — this year it’s July 18, 2026 — and I ask them to come back, and they always do.
