brighton twins

a coney island bound D train operating with R160 cars arrives at newkirk plaza, heading along brighton local in this unusual occurrence. this train is running towards its usual terminal of stillwell avenue, where upon arrival not too far down the line it’ll turn back around for northern service. across from the incoming train, a B train operating with R211A cars boards passengers with just 3 stops left in its brighton express run from bedford park boulevard in the bronx.

alright, yes this isn’t an actual D train. what actually happened was this was a R160 Q train running normal service, and this was kept out for longer than normal due to a shortage in the coney island yard. apparently at some point in its usual southbound run like we see here, it got signed up as a D train to coney island via broadway and brighton and nobody seemed to attempt to change it the entire trip. made for some crazy photos but god does this look so cursed. taken in Newkirk Plaza by @drewshootsstuff

a brooklyn bound J train operating with R179 cars clears delancey st-essex street, concluding the manhattan section of its northbound run. this train exits the tunnel to cross the williamsburg bridge into brooklyn, continuing its typical local run towards jamaica center in queens. the lights in the tunnel illuminate the outbound train. taken in Lower East Side by @drewshootsstuff

worn out streets

2007 MCI D4500CL (3436) operates in BxM6 operation, heading through midtown manhattan through the afternoon rush hour. this bus makes a peak outbound run for parkchester in the bronx, being the shortest express bus route the bronx has with just 3 stops in parkchester. trailing behind it, 2013 MCI D4500CT (2283) in QM68 operation continues its run through the big city before running on the queensboro bridge and into queens towards floral park. a 2016 X3-45 on the SIM4C follows the two outbound buses being inbound for midtown from huguenot. the rush hour traffic surrounds all the buses.

as of yesterday or this past weekend, it’s been confirmed that the eastchester depot (where the BxM6 is based out of) has lost all their MCI D4500CL fleet as they’ve been transferred out to yonkers. this means now eastchester has just MCI D4500CTs and prevost X3-45s, leaving yonkers and college point the only depots left with MCI D4500CL left. this feels weird considering how dominant they were a few years ago, but not all good things last forever. taken in Midtown Manhattan by @drewshootsstuff

a whitehall street bound W train operating with R68A cars arrived at times square-42nd street, heading through manhattan’s most popular place to be. this train has just entered manhattan a few stops ago, and continues its standard local run with not too many stops left before concluding in lower manhattan. taken in Times Square by @drewshootsstuff

a bronx bound 5 train operating with R142A cars boards passengers at 14th street-union square, still in the early phases of its lexington express run. this train still has plenty of manhattan stops left before hitting the bronx, where it’ll run express once again along the jerome avenue line towards burnside avenue.

due to a weekend general order, 5 trains weren’t able to proceed along their normal route due to track work. instead, 5 trains as seen here ran from bowling green to 149 street-grand concourse and then via the 4 to burnside avenue running express after 149th street. this cut prevented the 5 from accessing their usual R142 fleet from the 180th street yard, resulting in borrowing R142s and a R142A as seen here from the jerome avenue yard to maintain service. taken in Union Square by @drewshootsstuff

bravo street: waning phases

B trains cross paths at church avenue, heading through the flatbush area of brooklyn through the winter nights. the manhattan bound train operates with R68A cars, and is almost done with its brighton express run having just prospect park left before wrapping up its brooklyn run into manhattan and beyond up to bedford park boulevard. the brighton beach bound train operates with R68 cars, and is soon to be halfway done with it’s brighton express run.

as of recency, the B is 100% NTTs. it’s been thrown around before with the saying, but no R68s or R68As have ran on the B in the past two weeks. all the smee equipment the B previously had now only runs on the N, Q and W lines and the D is following suit with more R211s. the 7th R211 set entered service on the D earlier today (september 15th), and more and more R68s are gonna be taken off the D in the coming months. get your R68 D shots while you still can. taken in Church Avenue (BMT Brighton Line) by @drewshootsstuff

this was one of the biggest “what the actual fuck is this?” photos i’ve ever gotten.

LIRR DM30AC 508 leads the charge hauling MNRR SC-42DM 307 with 3 C3 coaches and DM30AC 505 on the tailing end of the consist, crawling through the jamaica station. this train is heading to the jamaica storage yard after testing for the day, and will come out later in the night to deadhead back to the west side yard in manhattan.

metro north equipment on long island railroad property? i know, highly unusual. back in december 2025, MNRR sent over this SC-42 307 to LIRR for testing purposes. LIRR was testing 307 on the main line to see how the chargers will perform when LIRR eventually orders their own chargers similar to what metro north has done. this isn’t the first time LIRR did this as they did this with the FL9s way back when. this special test train ran from jamaica to port jefferson, jamaica to ronkonkoma and even all the way out to speonk on various days of the week. eventually it was sent back to MNRR after a week of testing, and 307 now runs in the proper metro north areas it’s intended to. also fun fact, 307 didn’t enter service until february 2026. so while all this was going on, it didn’t even run once on MNRR in revenue service. that’s cool i guess. taken in Jamaica, Queens by @drewshootsstuff

2013 MCI D4500CT (2281) in QM68 operation crosses madison avenue and east 42nd street, heading northbound through the evening rush hours. this bus is soon to be done with the manhattan portion of its lengthy run, heading outbound for floral park in eastern queens. interestingly, this bus is displaying the old X68 code that is no longer in use, making this photo more symbolic considering recent events.

as of just yesterday or two days ago, it’s been confirmed that queens village (where the QM68 runs out of) is down to only 7 MCIs left like the one we see here. queens village is infamous for having the last nyct based MCIs running around, as a majority of the others were either sent to eastchester, college point or even retired outright. seeing as the days these beasts have are numbered, your last chance to get these be coming sooner than you thought. taken in Midtown Manhattan by @drewshootsstuff

hudson line train 755 operating with M3A cars arrives at harlem-125th street, heading through the associated area of manhattan through the rush hour. this train is bound for croton-harmon as most typical electric trains on the hudson line, and soon after clearing here will make a nonstop express run to tarrytown followed by limited stops up to croton-harmon. the sunset shines over the outbound train and the commuters waiting on the platform. taken in Harlem–125th Street by @drewshootsstuff

a manhattan bound 6 train operating with R62A cars arrives at middletown road, still in the beginning stretches of its lengthy southbound run. this train heads through the westchester square area of the bronx, as it heads through several more neighborhoods such as parkchester in its all local off peak run to brooklyn bridge in lower manhattan. despite the train running local at this time, the sign on this train is scrolled to a 6 express sign. this sign is now obsolete due to the R62A cars having led signage’s on the side dictating local or express trains, but if you see this sign around it’s a nice throwback to the earlier years. by @drewshootsstuff

an R160 consist bypasses jackson heights-roosevelt avenue, heading through the namesake area of queens. this train had just completed a late night R train run to queens plaza, and is deadheading to the jamaica yard where it’ll be stored for service the following day. per late night service patterns, E and F trains run local in both directions at this time allowing this deadhead to proceed through. taken in Jackson Heights by @drewshootsstuff

nightly twenties
•
2019 NFI XD40 (7601) in M20 operation heads north along 8th avenue, crossing west 34th street through the night hours. this bus is about halfway through its run towards lincoln center, and traverses through midtown manhattan and times square before eventually terminating just by the namesake lincoln center subway station on the 1 line. as it heads up 8th avenue, it’s passed by the historical new york penn station as well as the madison square garden, home to the new york knicks and new york rangers. this bus also features an aesys display, which makes the text seem skinnier and more colored through a camera’s lens than usual bus displays tend to be. the night street traffic surrounds the outbound bus. taken in 34th Street–Penn Station by @drewshootsstuff
