Menstruation has long been a taboo subject, shrouded in shame and stigma. While far more conversations are happening now around the topic, many people who menstruate still feel uncomfortable talking about it in all areas of society. However, menstruation shouldn’t be a taboo subject. It is nothing to be ashamed of and feeling comfortable to speak freely about your body and health is essential to ensure society is accommodating to everyone’s needs.

Dr Fatumina Said Abukar (@drfatumina) spoke to us about her experience of period shaming in the workplace, and explained how people who menstruate need to be better supported at work.

POV: You’re watching Olodum perform live in the heart of Pelourinho, Salvador 🇧🇷🥁❤️

The energy was incredible! Everyone was so friendly and welcoming, I didn’t feel harassed or hassled by anyone, and there was a noticeable police presence, which made me feel safer.

Honestly, one of my favourite experiences in Brazil so far. The music, the people, the culture. Salvador has something special. And me lovely cousin came to visit me all the way from Londoooon for a few days 🥹
