“How do you know where the skin cancer is?” — a question I hear all the time during Mohs surgery.
One of the most unique parts of this procedure is that we can actually show patients their tumor under the microscope. In real time, we map exactly where those cancer cells are and track them until they’re gone.
That immediate feedback isn’t just powerful for us as surgeons—it’s incredibly meaningful for patients too. Being able to see and understand what’s happening beneath the surface turns a stressful experience into an educational one.
Helping patients connect the dots and truly understand their diagnosis? That’s one of the most rewarding parts of what I do. 🔬✨

Second skin screening with the Los Angeles Angels was a huge success! So happy to be able to screen the players, coaches, staff members and family of the club. Big thank you as well to @eucerin for providing samples for our patients!

👀 Ever wonder what skin cancer looks like under the microscope?

🔬 Basal cell carcinoma (BCC) is the most common skin cancer — often caused by sun damage.

✅ The first three slides represent BCC seen during Mohs surgery while the last two slides demonstrate normal cutaneous histology including sebaceous glands and hair follicles.

On histology during Mohs surgery, we often see classic subtypes like nodular, micronodular, infiltrative, and superficial. The example shown above represents a combination of superficial and nodular patterns. Mohs offers the highest cure rates — up to 99% — by precisely removing cancer layer by layer while sparing healthy skin. #MohsSurgery #BasalCellCarcinoma #DermSurgery #SkinCancerTreatment by @drfronekderm

Such a great experience speaking at the 2025 Melanoma and Cutaneous Oncology Symposium led by Scripps Clinic. A privilege to learn and share alongside experts in dermatology, Mohs surgery, melanoma, head and neck cancer and beyond. Grateful for the opportunity to contribute to such an inspiring community. 🩺✨

Honored to represent dermatologists across the country at the AADA Legislative Conference in DC. 🇺🇸🩺

We advocated for protecting seniors’ access to care by addressing the urgent need to fix the broken Medicare Physician Fee Schedule.

⚾️ Angels skin screening success!
Had such a great time taking care of the Los Angeles Angels baseball club players, staff and administration. We were able to screen over seventy people for skin cancer this weekend, providing preventative exams for those highly exposed to the sun!

As a board certified dermatologist, board certified Mohs surgeon and sports fanatic, I love being able to combine dermatology and sports medicine! 👩🏻‍⚕️

Thanks to our physician and medical assistant volunteers, as well as Angels head trainer, Mike Frostad, for making this event possible.

Thanks @aocdderm for having me as a speaker this year! I had the opportunity to present my senior resident paper termed “A Review of Cutaneous Diseases Observed in Solid Organ Transplant Recipients,” which was accepted as the Roger Byrd Manuscript Competition winner. We had a great time catching up with colleagues and enjoying the Scottsdale heat! 🏜️

Dr Lisa Fronek @drfronekderm has been with @skinphysiciansurgeons for over a month now, and I haven’t had a chance to introduce her! She is such an amazing addition to our team! She is a talented, fellowship-trained Mohs Micrographic Skin Cancer Surgeon and we really needed to add a Mohs surgeon to take great care of so many of our lovely patients. As you know, skin cancer is one of the most serious conditions we treat in dermatology so she plays an important role in our office. She also sees patients for medical dermatology issues so you may meet her for other skin reasons. 🙂

I adore her both as a colleague and as a friend and we are thrilled to welcome her to our practice! #drpimplepopper #skinphysicians @forefrontdermatology taken in Skin Physicians & Surgeons by @drfronekderm
