Your baby can’t tell you what they need with words… but they’re communicating every day. 👶💬

Crying. Squirming. Fussing.

To a tired parent, it can feel like a guessing game:
🤔 Hungry?
😴 Tired?
💨 Windy?
🍼 Something else?

The good news? Newborns are actually incredible communicators. Once you learn to recognise their cues, you can respond with more confidence, less stress, and a whole lot less second-guessing.

That’s why I created Baby Talk: How to Translate What Your Baby Is Telling You: a FREE guide to help you understand:
✔️ Hunger signs
✔️ Tired cues
✔️ Wind/discomfort signals
✔️ What your baby’s behaviour is really trying to tell you

Because parenting is hard enough without the guesswork.

Does your baby hate tummy time? You’re not alone and the good news is, there are so many ways to build those same muscles and milestones without tears (for either of you 😅).

If your baby cries the moment you lay them on their tummy, try mixing it up with these gentle alternatives:
✨ On a ball (great for balance + core control)
✨ Across your knees (for comfort + eye contact)
✨ On their tummy reaching for toys (to build motivation)
✨ Inclined on your bent legs (adds support)
✨ Forward-prop sitting on your lap or the floor (for upper-body strength)

Remember, tummy time doesn’t have to mean flat on the floor. Every bit of time spent weight-bearing through arms, chest and neck counts toward those big milestones like rolling, crawling and sitting.

💡 Start small, even a few seconds at a time makes a difference.

You are the most interesting thing your baby has ever seen!

💬 Comment BABYTALK and I'll send you my FREE Baby Talk guide

....working through "What is your baby trying to tell you?"

Yes, newborns can't talk yet but they are excellent communicators. We just need to decode what they are saying.

Learning to recognise your baby's cues can make feeding, settling and sleep much easier for both of you.

This free baby talk guide explains the common signals babies use to communicate their needs; including signs of hunger, tiredness and wind. by @drgolly

Bottle refusal? 🍼 Sometimes it’s not the bottle… it’s the position.
Not every baby loves the traditional cradle hold, and that’s completely normal.
If feeding has become a battle, try switching things up:
👉 Facing outwards
👉 Side lying
👉 Walking while feeding
👉 Gentle rocking
A different position, a little movement or even a change of scenery can sometimes be enough to help your baby feel more comfortable and engaged during a feed.
And remember; always make sure your baby’s head and neck are well supported.
Save this for your next bottle feed 🍼🙌 by @drgolly

👀 “What colour will my baby’s eyes be?” This is one of the most common questions I get from parents when I see them for early check ups.

Here’s what we know:
✨ Eye colour starts forming in the third trimester and is influenced by genetics + melanin.
✨ Babies born with brown eyes usually keep them (and they may even darken).
✨ Babies born with grey, blue or green eyes may see changes up until 9 months… and sometimes all the way to age 6!
✨ And no, not all babies are born with blue eyes (myth busted ✅).

It’s a mix of science and surprise. One of the many little mysteries of early development.

Dropping the nap doesn’t have to happen overnight 😴

When your toddler starts transitioning from one nap to no nap, it doesn’t need to be all or nothing.

Some days they might happily skip it. Other days; after daycare, an early morning or a particularly busy day... they might still really need that sleep.

The key? If you do offer a nap, try not to let it happen too late in the afternoon, otherwise bedtime (and overnight sleep 👀) can take a hit.

Think of it as a transition, not a hard stop.

Moving from a cot to a big bed is a BIG milestone 🛏️

And I know it can feel a little daunting, especially when you realise your toddler can now... just get out of bed whenever they like 😅

The good news? You don’t need to overcomplicate it.

✨ Prepare them for the change
🛏️ Let them get comfortable with their new bed
🌙 Keep your usual bedtime routine
🤫 Calmly return them to bed when they wander
⭐ Celebrate the wins
🤝 And most importantly, stay consistent

That last one is a biggie.

If there are two parents or multiple caregivers, you really do need to be on the same page. If one person is holding the boundary and the other is letting things slide, your toddler will work that out VERY quickly 😂

Remember, they’re not just learning to sleep in a new bed. They’re learning independence, boundaries and how to settle themselves with a whole lot more freedom.

And there will probably be a few wobbles along the way. That’s okay.

❤️ Consistency is far more important than perfection.

You don’t need the perfect bed.
You don’t need the perfect timing.
You don’t need to get every night right.

You just need a clear plan and the confidence to stick with it.

💬 Comment “TRANSITION” and I’ll send you my blog with all my tips and tricks for making the move from cot to big bed.

And save this one for when the big bed era begins! 🛏️❤️ by @drgolly
