Full Band Fly Rig!

Earlier this year, Shure approached us with an idea; a “Band in a Box” concept based on their SLX-D+ wireless system.

Vocals, two guitars, and a bass, all in one of our 6U fly-racks. With Shure providing the wireless, and our friends at Neural DSP providing a Quad Cortex, we got to work making it a reality.

Hardware:

- Shure SLXD4Q 4-channel receiver

- Neural DSP Quad Cortex

- Bespoke rear panel with all audio outputs, PowerCON AC inlet, EtherCON & USB for Shure Wireless Workbench & Cortex Control connectivity

- Blacked out Neutrik connects throughout

- Lightweight 2U drawer with reinforced front and rear rack mounts.

- K7K designed custom foam housing all Shure transmitters, a spare capsule, 8x Shure SB903 lithium ion rechargeable batteries, SBC80-903 8-bay charger and a storage space for 1/4” guitar cables. Shout out in particular to @konviktmlv for this insanely clever design, I love how the power supply is hidden below.

- Dimmable LED lighting for front and rear visibility, controlled by a central 22mm Stainless Steel momentary switch, via a Smart Dimmer Control box for IOS/Android operation.

- All housed in the K7K AeroRack 6U Peli.

It’ll be revealed this weekend at Radar Festival, go check it out on the Shure stand in the Music Marketplace if you’re there!

Why did we build this Quad Cortex template with 3 mono outputs instead of 3 stereo pairs? 👇

The QC gives you 4 audio inputs and 6 audio outputs, but for this build we deliberately chose 3 dedicated mono signal paths.

1️⃣ More CPU headroom
Mono routing keeps the DSP load down, leaving more room for effects and MIDI automation while reducing preset change latency. The QC’s CPU management is excellent, but on a touring rig we always aim to leave plenty in reserve.

2️⃣ Cleaner programming
One signal path per guitar keeps the template easy to understand, easier to modify, and much faster to troubleshoot if you’re under pressure at a show.

3️⃣ Simpler live integration
Three mono outputs mean faster patching, fewer desk inputs, and a setup that works in virtually any venue without needing stereo channels or special routing.

We were honoured to be asked to build this custom fly rack for @neuraldsp for their demonstration booth at @thenammshow , showcasing the brand new Quad Cortex mini! 2x QC’s, one draw!

We had about 5 days to work out all of the cabling, get the panel made and try to film a couple of bits. All things considered, we’re really happy with how this came out!

This is also a sneak peak of some of the products myself & Kon have been working on for the last year together. We’ll be releasing these into the world in March 2026 via our new website.

In the meantime, we have a small amount of these fly racks in stock. They come in an open top design or with a built in laptop shelf option. You can buy them with or without the Peli, priced at £349 without a Peli, £799 with a Peli (inc VAT). We have 10 of each in stock ready to ship.

Send us a DM if you want one!

We recently had our guitar rig built by @drguitarsco and @konvikt.kustoms

It’s been working flawlessly and sounding incredible. Full redundant switching and built like a tank.

If there’s one bit of advice I’d give to any guitar techs out there designing or building a new rig it’s this; spend your time planning it!

I like to draw things out like this as it not only gives you a cheat sheet when you’re putting it altogether but it also gives a really detailed explanation of the signal flow if you ever need to get someone to cover your gig.

I like to print / laminate these and have them inside the Peli cases so if anyone comes in green to the gig, they can see exactly how it’s all wired up. This also makes fault finding much simpler.

If you are a touring band, using a @neuraldsp @fractalaudiosystems @kemperamps_official or @official_line6, the RSW from @konvikt.kustoms & @fretronics is a must have.

It allows you to not only route all the cabling I/O to each unit, it also has an “auto switching” feature which auto switches to the spare unit in the event of a complete failure of the main one. This works by sending a sine wave signal generated by the RSW which comes out the S send output of the RSW, into Input 2 of your QC or device, you then setup a second row on your QC patch to create a “loop” and then out the QC send into the return of the RSW. If for any reason the unit stops hearing this signal, it automatically switches to the spare. This doesn’t affect your tone or change anything in your presets, it just sits at the bottom, quietly singing sweet tones into your RSW.

Now let’s be honest, most of these digital amp modellers are incredibly reliable and of these 4 particular systems I’ve worked with over the years, I have never had any of them fail on me personally. Although it can and does happen.

All things break and all things melt in the sun at a certain temperature. Our job is to make sure Plan B is ready to go. And boy have they nailed this with this design.

Is it likely to stop working? Probably not.

Is it going to completely ruin your show if one goes down and you don’t have a spare? Definitely.

Another feature I LOVE about this device is the onboard filtered and isolated dual 3A power outlets (which on the this next batch come with locking 2.1mm cables as standard). So, go buy one before they sell out (again)! taken in Dean Rowbotham Guitars by @drguitarsco

It’s been a very busy and very exciting couple of months building this new rig for Good Charlotte!

This rig is fully modular and packs down into 6 Pelican cases, all weighing less than 30kg. Thanks to David, Laure & Fernando at @ultracase2019 for turning around these lovely carpeted road cases for them to live in. Features:

- x2 Quad Cortex on individual pull out trays with bespoke custom wiring for all connections.
- RSW QC Redundancy unit for seamless QC integration and power. If you’re running these live, this is an essential piece of kit for pro touring bands.
- Custom IO panels featuring Powercon power inputs and outputs, midi automation RTP inputs (connecting to the MIO), USB ports for fast access to Neural Cortex Control and custom XLR lines for everything else.
- Custom 30FT looms for each player, plus a plug and play extension loom, allowing you to break the connection at the pedalboard end and the rack end, making rolling on and off festival stages much easier.
- x4 custom made pedalboards featuring @rjmmusictechnology (thanks Sheri & Ron as always!) GT10/GT16’s, custom made junction box including power supply and loom connections and finally thanks to @bossinfoglobal for sending out these lovely new black TU3 Waza Craft Tuners. This new one is fantastic! Super bright LED’s and fast tracking.

Thanks to Kon for stepping in last minute to help me build the junction boxes last month and supplying the rack sleeves and foamed Peli’s. More news on them soon! taken in Jimmy Kimmel Live by @drguitarsco
