As electioneering drums begin to beat, remember: the decisions we make today determine the bed we lie on tomorrow.

Politicians will woo us with promises, but we must judge them by their character, competence and track record, not sweet words or political theatrics.

My recent involvement in behind-the-scenes political engagements has exposed a troubling disconnect between some grassroots leaders and the genuine needs of their people. Too many play to the gallery instead of representing those who entrusted them with power.

I am encouraged by Delta State Government’s efforts to strengthen grassroots complaint mechanisms, but complaints must lead to investigations, solutions and accountability.

Some projects we demand may already be budgeted for or approved, yet their benefits never reach the people. Who was responsible? What was budgeted? What was delivered? Who must answer?

My advice to the state government is to establish a transparent system for reporting abandoned projects, failed infrastructure and poor service delivery. Where wrongdoing is proven, erring contractors and responsible officials must face consequences, and their failures should be made public.

The Governor must also understand that being the bigger man should not mean shielding those who undermine his administration’s progress. His magnanimity must not become a shield for negligence or wrongdoing, nor should he continually absorb blame for other people’s failures simply because he chooses restraint.

Mercy is a virtue, but accountability is a duty.

Accountability must extend from councillors and LGA chairmen to state legislators, federal representatives and senators.

As our people say in Pidgin:

“Everything no be Governor fault! Wetin your councillor, LGA chairman, House of Assembly, House of Reps and senator dey use their budget do?”

Let every representative account for their budget, their performance and their contribution to development. Political connections must never place anyone above scrutiny.

There are fortunes that can be earned, titles that can be attained, and things that can be built. But the most valuable things in life are often the ones no ambition can manufacture—being known, being chosen, and having people with whom the years become meaningful.

To the woman who has shared this life with me—thank you for knowing the person behind the achievements, for understanding the silences as much as the words, and for making the ordinary moments of life carry their own significance. What we have is not simply something I cherish; it is something I would choose again.

To my children—thank you for the beautiful disruption you have brought into my world. You have given me reasons to laugh when there was little time for laughter, reasons to come home, and a perspective that no accomplishment could have taught me. Watching you become yourselves has been one of the rare privileges of my life.

Perhaps love is not merely about finding someone to share the good days with. It is finding the people whose presence changes what “good” means.

When I look at my life, I know exactly where my richest parts are.

Today, I celebrate the incredible blessing of being a father to my children. They are my motivation, my pride, and one of the greatest reasons I strive to be better each day.

Today marks 10 years, 6 months, and 4 days since the people of Orhuwhorun, Owhrode, and surrounding communities began appealing for meaningful intervention on the Orhuwhorun–Owhrode Road.

Over the years, residents have endured the challenges, remained patient, and continued to hope that this critical road would receive the attention it deserves.

This video tells part of that story—a story of resilience, perseverance, and a community that refuses to give up on its future.

10 years, 6 months, 4 days. The road remains unfinished, but the hope of the people remains unbroken.
