The International Day of Peace, also officially known as World Peace Day, is a United Nations-sanctioned holiday observed annually on 21 September. It is dedicated to world peace, and specifically the absence of war and violence, such as might be occasioned by a temporary ceasefire in a combat zone for humanitarian aid access. The day was first established in 1981 and first observed in September 1982 and is kept by many nations, political groups, military groups, and people.

To inaugurate the day, the United Nations Peace Bell is rung at UN Headquarters (in New York City). The bell is cast from coins donated by people from all continents except Africa, and was a gift from the United Nations Association of Japan, as "a reminder of the human cost of war"; the inscription on its side reads, "Long live absolute world peace". by @drheathercorrie

I met this seagull whilst on a ferry. Definitely posed for the picture 😀

The eco system of the sea captures carbon, is part of our climate system and is currently the most amazingly in tact ecosystem on earth.

Let’s keep it this way by banning bottom trawl fishing, and deep sea mining everywhere. As well as creating areas of complete no take (anything) so it can get on with doing it’s thing. This makes so much sense !!!!!!!

I am particularly inspired by the difference that banning whale hunting has had ✨

I am in awe of what @davidattenborough has achieved in his 99 years on planet earth. Not least, his new film, Ocean that we went to see this evening 🌊

Inspired to find out more about the 2025 UN Ocean Conference:

1. Let’s end the destructive practice of bulldozing our ocean floors, by banning bottom trawling.

2. Let’s make one third of the ocean a no take zone, such that these areas are free from all types of fishing.

May we linger in moments of joy, to help them stick.
