Documenting our travels around Australia in “Spencer” (our SportsCruiser Caravans 1800 Cross Country Platinum model)

POSTS STORIES REELS

Back on air from social media exile. And our epic trip continues. After Tassie we travelled the Great Ocean Road and rest of Victorian southern coast, then up to Adelaide and surrounds for about 10 weeks.
First pic is of last night’s full moon lighting up our SportsCruiser caravan.
We are currently in the Flinders Ranges (SA).
The Outback beckons…😜

We are finally leaving Tassie after almost 3 months of adventure.
Yes, we’ve been very slack correspondents lately. Apologies but there is just too much to do here (and patchy reception) to spend all day on our phones!
Here’s a few parting pics. The girls are very sad😒

No-one mentioned it was national Cow Out On Road day!🙄
These lovely ladies were making use of the loooong bitumen paddock in northeast Tassie.

Some photos from an awesome day hiking through the Tasman National Park. It’s about 1.5 hours east of Hobart.
Plenty of stunning coastal scenery including the infamous Shipsterns Bluff surf spot and Cape Raoul. Met a friendly echidna and had a recovery swim in the beautiful waters of nearby White Beach.

Cradle Mountain Tasmania…and we made it to the top (1,545m)!
Can’t believe we reached the summit. Probably one of the hardest days of hiking/climbing we’ve ever done. The last several hundred metres involved scrambling up large rocks & boulders. Fortunately the weather gods looked after us with a postcard day.
This place is absolutely stunning and richly deserves its World Heritage listing. Here are some photos from the iPhone 😁

Found a great free camp at Leven Canyon. It’s about 45km inland from Devonport. Virtually no one around, especially compared to the busy coastal camps. Got down to about 6 degrees last night…a shock for all us Queenslanders! Hard a roaring fire going and visits from a tame Paddymelon.
Did an awesome day hike along the Leven Canyon floor today. Hard to tell from the pics, but the cliffs in the canyon would be several hundred metres high.

We are now in Tassie!
Had a good trip across from Geelong on the Spirit of Tasmania ferry and landed in Devonport.
Just endured two days packed in like sardines in a coastal caravan park at Ulverstone while we got our bearings and did clothes washing etc. Got to see fairy penguins come into the beach (at 10pm). And drank some Penguin beer!
We are now aimlessly roaming and freecamping again (our default setting).

An update after enjoying life off-grid for several days in the Kosciusko National Park area near Tumut NSW.
Our initial campsite was very busy, dusty and away from the lake (but the views were nice).
No probs, we moved to a lovely spot next to the fast flowing (and freezing cold) Tumut river. It’s fed by the Snowy Mountains Hydro Scheme.
Plenty of kayaking and swimming to escape the heat. Amanda was in her element!
Next stop is Victoria.

Our traveling companions (Mark & Michelle) love a good authentic brewery. It seems they struck gold at @badlandsbrewery in Orange this evening.
The brewery is located in a stunning old warehouse/factory building in the heart of the CBD.
It was established by the owners Jon & Bianca about 12 years ago. Well worth a visit to sample their lovely beers, and also a selection of local wines.
For something different, I figured the ambience was best captured in black and white.

Can you believe we did a “hot lap” around the famous Mt Panorama race car circuit at Bathurst….while towing our caravan?!😱🤣
And we each had a turn at it😜
Amanda remembers watching the annual Bathurst car race with her dad, and Mark loves the photographic spectacle of it all. So we had to do it. A highlight of the trip so far.
From Bathurst we travelled further west to Orange.
Yep, another beautiful country town with tree lined streets and nice shops.
Spent 3 days here single handedly resurrecting the local economy over the New Year period🥳🤪
Did a bit of swimming, and low budget wine tasting (see pic 🤣).
STOP PRESS: Just found an awesome local brewery this evening…may need to stay ANOTHER day….more to come on that little adventure next post, thanks to Jon and the awesome folk at @badlandsbrewery 😜

It’s Astro time! Took this late last night at Cassilis NSW after finally getting some dark sky to work with. Looks soooo much better on my MacBook’s big screen🙄
Today we travelled down to the beautiful country town of Mudgee. Lots of trendy shops, gourmet eateries, wineries, a micro brewery, lush tree lined streets….and even a Bunnings. Handy Amanda was in her element!

And we are back on the road….after spending several days over the Christmas break on our friend’s uncle’s property in the Hunter Valley.
Big storms last night finally cleared to a lovely day.
We headed west through Kurri Kurri, Denman and Merriwa before arriving at Cassilis for the night. Beautiful weather, bird life and stunning sunset. Even got the 400mm telephoto lens out for a few pics😜
