2024 world champion. This title especially did not come easy. Saying I can’t thank every one involved enough is a huge understatement. Last year after I won the worlds I felt almost a sense of guilt like it was a fluke. I also had a lot of trouble enjoying the trip because I felt so much pressure going into purple for my first year at adult. I felt on film and based on my technical skill sets I was going to have a hard time the first year of adult. My goal was to podium at one major tournament and consistently be in the quarter finals. It feels great to be able to exceed my own expectations and see the skill development that allowed me to get there. I can’t wait to continue on this rate and show much better jiu jitsu than I was able to display this weekend at brown belt. One thing from this past six months or so I’m especially proud of was being able to finish a much higher percentage of my opponents. Last year I felt I had to win by a lot of tactics. This year I made improvements in my methodology of winning. Across the 4 major tournaments I did (nogi world, euro, pan, world) I had a 75% submission rate in 16 matches. It was also a big goal of mine going into this worlds to be able to win so I could get my brown belt before I turn 18, so that was pretty cool. All that being said, I couldn’t done it without a lot of people. Thanks to all my teammates @crazy88mma @lloydirvinmma for constantly pushing me and helping me improve mentally and technically. Thank you to master Julius for all the guidance on the mental, technical, and tactical level. Thank you to @lloydirvin for helping me get extra sharp especially in the passing game, even though I didn’t pass the guard AND I botched what we worked on 😅. Thanks to @griffinbjj for dealing with me for all these years, turns out the loop choke stage did pay off at some point, lol. Thanks to @odyssey.strong for getting me to the point I feel stronger than my opponents despite not having my grown man strength. Thank you to @carlos_oscarjj for helping me make big technical improvements over the years, the closed guard drilling from years ago helped a lot this weekend. Part 2 in comments. (The Next World Champion) I’m saying this with 100% conviction.@drileyjj just completed one of the best seasons as a purple belt that I’ve watched since KeenanThis is coming from someone that has had students win World Titles at blue, purple, brown & black belt in IBJJf gi and no gi Worlds.
