Blessed with a very quiet early in the week visit to Keith Tulloch’s @keithtullochwines winery in the Hunter Valley. We spent two hours with lively host Emma-Jane, tasting through many of Keith’s current release wines, Alisdair and Kenisha Tulloch’s range of super thoughtful @aeonwines looking at fruit of the region through next gen eyes, and also some banging super high quality distilled drops from @fardistilling Ben and Jessica which are clever and absolute knock outs! #huntervalleywine #semillon #chardonnay #shiraz #gin by @drinking_n_thinking

Wow, gorgeous complex complete rose here. Brilliantly treading the line between avant-garde orange for orange’s sake and traditional rose, gorgeous, thoughtful, maximum effort maximum result. Only 90 dozen made, I’m fortunate to run into this wine, great stuff!!! @lvdo.wine #orangewine #clarendon #mclarenvalewine #rosewine by @drinking_n_thinking

Headed out of town today to check out the all new Bottle Shock wine bar located in Gumeracha.LOVED it 😍. Super thoughtful wine list, most by the glass, not your dad’s wines. More’ish food , super hospitable people. Wine discovery has been gamified in an actual fun way! Congrats @bottleshockbrendo this is awesome, you’re putting your money where your mouth is, the wine industry needs more of this energy to ensure a bright future 💪 @bottleshocktv by @drinking_n_thinking

Game changer, this has enriched me. I had a mother and daughter customer pair of Sicilian extraction in the store yesterday asking for a Malvasia for making a Christmas dessert. Last time looked there at least 19 Malvasias in Italy. The customers were delighted when I knew enough to ask the right questions and quickly figure out they were looking for Malvasia Delle Lipari. I am grateful to the VinItaly International Academy for the great education I’ve been fortunate enough to be exposed to. @vinitalyinternational @steviekim222 by @drinking_n_thinking

Today we visited the Irpinia region and had a knockout wine hospitality experience at Cantine Macchie Sant Maria, Montemiletto in the Taurasi DOCG. The views across to the town of Taurasi are a knockout! This is a young winery, starting in 2010, run by a fairly young team. The progress to date is outstanding! There are some exciting new product developments under way, stay tuned. Our fantastic host Carmela tools us though the vineyards, the winery (tasted Falanghina under fermentation), the maturation barrel spaces, then on to a lux tasting of the wines with local foods. The extra brut sparkling Falanghina was refreshingly dry, with nice texture. The Fiano di Avellino is a knockout, lovely aromatics, the green glint, complex and set up for developing the hazelnut notes with age. The Greco di Tufo wines were both powerful complex, rich and luxurious wines, a must try for white Burgundy lovers. The brace of 100% Aglianico wines Irpinia DOC, Taurasi DOCG and Taurasi DOCG Riserva, were a masterclass in the variety and its expressions. We loved this visit and look out for the new hospitality offerings coming soon from Carmela and the team. #italianwine #italianwineambassador #taurasi #fiano #grecoditufo @melanderw @macchiesantamaria @vitigniirpini by @drinking_n_thinking

Ticked off a wine nerd bucket list item this week with a visit to I Vigneri in Milo, Sicily. Hosted by the brilliant and oh so good to spend time with, Simone Foti and team. (The drive up from Taormina was “enlightening” 😳😂)We walked the vineyards, fertilized by Etna, alberello staked vines standing at attention. Varieties included Carricante ( a first pass pick for sparkling completed), Chenin Blanc and some Gewurztraminer. The Nerello Mascalese, Nerello Cappuccio, and Grenache come from vineyards around on the north and north western slopes of Etna. The vines in Milo, the only place where Etna Bianco Superiore can be made, experience a terroir that is a confluence of factors from Etna by way of ash, the Ionian, the altitude, the winds, the rain (almost as much as Sydney), the terracing of the land and most importantly the human vineyard know how.We had a good overview of the Palmento, one of few working on Etna now. This is used to make the Vino Rosso, but is really a declassified wonderful Etna Rosso, foot trodden and pressed using the giants toothpick. A strong recommendation to try if you can find it!The winery was split over many levels and had all the usual wine making toys and tools, including an excellent range of oak options and a top notch press for the whites and sparkling. We were led with passion through an amazing range of wines, including a really good Chenin Blanc, white blends (loved the Primavera with intense ginger and exotic spices), Etna Bianco Superiore, a rosato made white style Vinudilice (lovely aromatics), and amazing rosso including the Vino Rosso traditional Palmento wine, Vinupetra (younger vines) and Vinupetra Viti Centenarie (old vines) in both 2022 and 2018 releases with the latter showing some early tertiary notes. This was a great visit for myself, rounding out somewhat my knowledge of Etna wines, but leaving plenty of room for further exploration in future. In conclusion the wines we experienced certainly could only ever come from Etna with the Etnean confluence of terroir and humanity not being replicable anywhere else on earth. Grazie @simoneft94 for your warm welcome and time! #italianwine by @drinking_n_thinking

Smart blend of Inzolia, Catarratto, Grecanico, and Chardonnay. Tasted blind, no way you would guess Sicilia, 12,5% ABV and super refreshing drinking value. Enjoyed with dinner outdoors in Taormina tonight. 🤩💪😛 #italianwine #siciliawine #italianwineambassador #tascadalmerita by @drinking_n_thinking
