“places” - shot on film

an album from my first ever roll developed

(Testimony: At the end of last year, a friend of mine blessed me with a canon ae-1. Film, a first for me. Sometime at the end of 2024/ beginning of 2025 a desire arose in me. I wanted to shoot on film. I would see my friends with their film cameras, the joy in their faces when shooting, capturing moments that would now last a lifetime. Being invited into their perspective, the responsibility of intentionality, the freedom of expression. I wanted to join in, so I prayed, “Abba, I could buy a camera, but it would mean the world to me if you would gift me one. Thank you in advance :).” And I left it at that. Many moons later and here we are. He loves to give, and His gifts are good gifts. He hears every one of your prayers, He knows every one of your desires, never lose faith <3)

“a window for glory to slide in”

I’ve become a creature of habit
Every morning I partake in a routine that I never deviate from

It’s comfortable

Where I live, there is a window
I dare not stare out of it

I have a routine
One that window is not a part of

I have a routine

One morning as I walked past this window
I thought I heard something

The faintest of whispers
I paid no mind to it
I have a routine.

But this morning
As I walked by this window
There it was again

Only this time, I could make out what I heard
And it scared me

“Look”

I froze
Unsure of what to do
Do I look?
Can I look?

You. Have. A. Routine.
You?
That wasn’t me…was it?

My heart was pounding
My mind was racing
You?

Something inside me told me I need to look

Still frozen in place, as I slowly turned my head towards the window
There was a war going on in my head

What was I doing?
Do I stop?
I-I have a routine?
Why? Why was this routine of mine so important?

I look
And as my gaze sets on what is beyond the window
What do I see?
They say a picture is worth a thousand words, but this picture has a price no words could buy

As I stare out of this window I realize something
I’ve been living in total darkness

What I believed to be my daily, “comfortable” routine
Was one that involved living in total darkness

Staring out of this window let a light in
One I couldn’t escape from

A light that calmed my pounding heart
A light that quieted my racing mind
What did you do to me?
The war was over
The light had won

I had a routine
Now when I wake up, I find myself longing for this light

I now know that I can’t see without it
I want to be in it at all times

You’ve ruined me
I’m good for nothing else
And yet, I’m okay with that

This is not just any window, but a window for glory to slide in
To every corner and crevice of my life
