Meet one of our official Booked in the City creators: Valencia Darling, also known as @drippedinlit

Valencia is an Atlanta-based reader, writer, content creator, bookish event planner, and curator for The Atlanta Book Club. She brings Atlanta’s literary community together through book swaps, reader meetups, and events such as the Black Romance Book Festival. Her passion for books extends beyond the page—she also organizes charity book sales and literacy fundraisers supporting local schools, educators, and students.

We’re excited to have Valencia capturing and sharing the Booked in the City experience on October 17! Help us give her a warm welcome in the comments. 🤎

Happy Fade in the Water Day 🌊

In honor of this most special day, I put together a rec list for when you’re in the mood for stories that don’t end without a good fight.

These are books about Black resistance, rebellion, and yes, survival BUT all of them are about the moments when people decide they’ve had enough.

📚 Blood Slaves | Supernatural/ Alternative History
📚 Ring Shout | Supernatural/ Alternative History
📚 The Awakening of Malcolm X | YA
📚 The American Daughters | Historical Fiction
📚 We Refuse | Non Fiction

Honorable mentions: The Reformatory and Burn Down Masters House because five was really hard to do. by @drippedinlit

Need an excuse to buy more books? This is it.
I’m partnering with The Wren’s Nest for an All-You-Can-Fit Book Sale to raise money for local teachers and students at Finch Elementary. Fill a tote with as many books as you can fit, then grab extras for just $1 each.

📚 Saturday, August 8 | 10 AM–2 PM
📍 The Wren’s Nest, Atlanta

Bring your own tote (highly recommended!) or grab one for $5. We’ll also have Cash, Zelle, and Tap to Pay available.

Every book you buy helps support local classrooms, and a portion of the proceeds also benefits The Wren’s Nest and its work to promote literacy across Atlanta.

If you’ve got books you’d like to pass along, you can drop them in the donation bin on The Wren’s Nest’s front porch through August 7.

Come say hi, find some great reads, and help us do some good while you’re at it.

who said the he had to be human? over here we listen and we don’t judge, so here’s five book recs where the main love interest might lead you to having to explain yourself.

our vicious oaths @nia.davenport ✨ “okay yes, he did murder almost everyone at my wedding, but about that!” -kadeesha probably

tuesday’s blues @jacqueaye ✨ who said the grim reaper couldn’t be dating material??

i got abducted by aliens and now i’m trapped in a rom-com @kimberlylemming ✨ we both know the title says it all!

legendborn by @tracydeonn ✨you’re going to need to break out the pythagorean theorem to solve this magical love triangle.

accidents happen series @jcageauthor ✨ the entire series is fun chaotic romance at its best—just maybe turn the volume down if listening to the audiobook in public 😏

what book would you add to this list? bonus points if it’s unhinged! 👀 by @drippedinlit
