Postpartum psychosis is NOT just “baby blues” and it’s not something someone can simply push through.

This is a serious mental health emergency that can happen after childbirth and can look like hallucinations, paranoia, severe confusion, mood swings, not sleeping for days, or feeling disconnected from reality.

The scary part? Many mothers don’t realize what’s happening because these thoughts and experiences can feel very real. This is exactly why support, education, and early intervention matter.

As a therapist, I want people to understand this: postpartum psychosis is rare, but when it happens, getting help immediately can save lives.

📊 About 1–2 out of every 1,000 mothers experience postpartum psychosis.
📊 Untreated postpartum psychosis has been associated with increased risk of suicide and harm, which is why immediate treatment is so important.

Please check on the new moms around you. Stop telling mothers to “just enjoy this phase” or “be grateful.” Listen to them. Support them. Help them get care.

Mothers carry so much that people don’t see and struggling after birth does not make someone a bad mother. It makes them human. 🤍 by @drireneyay

In many Armenian families, we are taught to be strong, to push through, and to carry our struggles quietly. But true strength is knowing when to ask for help.

Mental health challenges are not a sign of weakness, they are part of being human. Whether you’re struggling with anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, or simply feeling overwhelmed, you do not have to carry it alone.

Healing begins the moment we give ourselves permission to reach out. Asking for help is not giving up; it’s taking the first step toward a healthier, happier life. @wisenuts_podcast taken in Los Angeles, California by @drireneyay

Today, my Hillside team had the opportunity to visit The Gentle Barn and experience firsthand the powerful connection between humans and animals. 🐴❤️

Animals have a unique way of helping us slow down, be present, and connect with our emotions in a safe and meaningful way. Research has shown that interactions with animals can reduce stress, decrease anxiety, improve mood, and increase feelings of connection and emotional well-being.

As mental health professionals, it was a beautiful reminder that healing can happen in many forms. Sometimes, the most profound therapeutic moments come not from words, but from connection, compassion, and simply being present with another living being.

Thank you, Gentle Barn, for reminding us of the importance of empathy, mindfulness, and the healing power of unconditional love. taken in Gentle Barn by @drireneyay

Social media will tell you to cut your family off. Therapy asks you to understand the pattern.

Before ending relationships, ask yourself: Have I communicated? Set boundaries? Examined my own role in the dynamic?

Not every relationship can be saved, and some truly need distance. But healing isn’t always found in disconnection. Sometimes it’s found in growth, accountability, and learning how to relate differently.

Therapy isn’t about teaching you who to remove from your life. It’s about helping you understand yourself so you can make healthier choices in all of your relationships. by @drireneyay

April reflection:

April taught me that peace doesn’t come from just having more or achieving more. It comes from feeling aligned, like my soul is in the right place and my life actually has meaning and purpose.

I’ve learned that you can have everything and still feel off, and you can have less and feel completely grounded within yourself.

So for me, this month wasn’t about what I gained. It was about understanding what truly matters and that at the end of the day, all I really want is to feel at peace with who I am and the life I have created. taken in Los Angeles, California by @drireneyay

Every year, one of the most meaningful things to us at Hillside Wellness Center is being able to give back to the women in our community and create a space where they feel empowered, beautiful, supported, and cared for.

This year’s Petals & Pampering event was truly special. Seeing so many women come together, laugh, connect, and take a moment for themselves reminded us how important community, healing, and self-care really are.

A heartfelt thank you to @ellevemedspa for collaborating with @hillside_wellness and helping bring this event to life. Your support, kindness, and generosity helped make this day so beautiful for the women in our community.

Thank you as well to our amazing vendors @honeybasilcharc @skinceuticals who showed up with so much love and support. We are so grateful for each and every person who contributed to making this event possible. Furthermore, thank you @yerevanprinting for always making our shirts look the best!

To all the women who attended thank you for allowing us to celebrate you. 💐 taken in Hillside Wellness Center by @drireneyay

As we transition into spring, something subtle begins to shift
your mood, your energy, your emotional world.

More sunlight can support serotonin and increase vitality…
but it can also bring restlessness, irritability, and thoughts that were easier to quiet during the slower winter months.

Spring doesn’t just lift you it activates you.

In therapy, we focus on:
• regulating emotions as energy rises
• making sense of resurfacing thoughts
• reconnecting with yourself in a way that feels sustainable not overwhelming

Because growth is not always visible, but it is always happening beneath the surface, and Spring is not just about feeling better it’s about learning how to hold yourself through the change. taken in Hillside Wellness Center by @drireneyay
