Matthew Schaefer is great hockey player, but he’s an even better person.
The Jennifer Schaefer Child Support Room at Northwell’s R.J. Zuckerberg Cancer Center is going to make Long Island a better place, and that’s pretty special.

Matthew Schaefer joined NHL Network after the unveiling of the Jennifer Schaefer Child Support Room, donated by the Islanders Children’s Foundation.
During the interview, Schaefer talked about how the room will help children and families battling cancer, why ladybugs mean so much to him and more.
“There’s a lot more to life than hockey. For me, I play hockey, but I can come here and I can be with the kids.”
Schaefer is a special, special human being. 💙🧡

The Islanders have signed Ben Hutton to a professional tryout offer.
The 33-year-old defenseman had six goals, nine assists and 15 points in 55 regular-season games with the Golden Knights last season, setting a career high in goals. He added one assist in seven playoff games.
Over parts of 11 NHL seasons with the Canucks (2015-19), Kings (2019-20), Ducks (2020-21), Maple Leafs (2020-21) and Golden Knights (2021-26), Hutton has 30 goals, 109 assists and 139 points in 575 career regular-season games. He won the Stanley Cup with Vegas in 2023.
The Senators signed Hutton to a PTO this offseason, but they released him on Sept. 26. There were online rumors Hutton would be taking his talents to Russia, but the Islanders swooped in and added the veteran with Ryan Pulock expected to miss 2-4 weeks (upper-body injury) and Alexander Romanov likely out for the season.
This is another gigantic setback for Isaiah George. After hyping him up all offseason, it is very obvious the organization simply doesn’t trust him to play NHL minutes. Mathieu Darche now has signed two veterans, Logan Stanley and Hutton, instead of giving George a shot.
What are your thoughts on this news? Are you happy the Islanders are giving Hutton an opportunity instead of George?

Do you agree with this person’s ranking? Do you think the Islanders have one of the best Hometown Remix jerseys in the NHL?

Syracuse Crunch forward Tristan Allard has been suspended for three games as a consequence of a match penalty for an illegal check to the head of Cole Eiserman during Friday night’s game against the Hammers, the AHL announced this morning.
The incident occurred in the third period of the game, with the Crunch leading 6-0 at the time. Hammers broadcaster Jason Shaya called the hit a “blindside elbow to the head,” a “dumb play,” “very dangerous” and “completely unnecessary.”
Eiserman went to the locker room after the play and did not play in Hamilton’s next game on Sunday, a 3-2 shootout loss to the Utica Comets.
What are your thoughts on the play? Do you think Allard should have received a longer suspension?
