There’s no better way to understand a car than to drive it.

Real-world driving gives you a better understanding of how the car behaves and what the driver actually feels behind the wheel. That experience gives us a real reference point when developing and refining the simulator hardware.

It’s one of the many things that makes the partnership between @driven_dynamix and @simucube so valuable. 🤝

What does a race car actually feel like when you’re pushing it to the limit?

I got the chance to find out with the DDX Prime at iZone Driver Performance.

This isn’t just a simulator that moves with the screen. The DDX Prime uses true 6-DoF motion and ultra-low latency feedback to reproduce things like weight transfer, braking, rotation, grip changes and slip angle.

As a racing driver, being able to actually feel those changes rather than simply see them completely changes the experience.

The crazy part? The DDX Prime responds in around 3 milliseconds.

Raw telemetry arrives at Dynamo. Roughly 3.5 ms later, on DDX Precision, an accelerometer on the platform detects motion. Filtering and cue construction, transmission to our controller, servo response - every stage in between is measured, and every stage is ours. The rest of the chain, the part every motion system inherits, lives upstream in the simulation - and DDX PreActiv goes after that part, predicting where the car is going, not where it was.
