Driver405’s (@driver405) remix of Valley Lights’ “Alexandra” lands on Outland Recordings as a high-energy rework built from heartbreak, synthpop shine, Italo momentum, and an EBM-leaning bite. The original comes from Valley Lights’ Devil May Care, and Driver405 heard something in the vocal that could move into his own darker, club-focused lane almost immediately.

That instinct shaped the whole remix. Instead of treating “Alexandra” as a simple tempo lift, Driver405 builds a more narrative version of the song’s emotional center, using wedding bells as an image of a union lost, melancholy synth writing to trace the softer stages of grief, and an EBM breakdown to push the remix into anger before the final section gathers everything into acceptance. The result feels bright on the surface, but there is something bruised underneath it.

The interview below gets into both sides of that process. Driver405 talks about the friendship behind the remix, why remixes give him a more productive creative frame than a blank page, and how artists can keep rough ideas alive in an era of polished loops, generative tools, and instant finish.

Played one of my favorite @driver405 live sets last July 2025 at @dirtybirdcamp x @nnmfestival after driving 12 hours north from LA to the Cook’s Valley Campground ⛺️

One year later, I’ve finally gotten around to uploading the full hour multicam recording and I’m stoked for you all to check it out. Since then I’ve released a couple of the unreleased tracks I played there including ‘Where Do I Belong’ and ‘Human Nature’ with @wheninrome.uk but stay tuned for more in 2026.

Story time - I met Clive Farrington of @wheninrome.uk back in 2021 after his show in Long Beach and sent him some rough 80s synthwave-adjacent instrumental demos. A few days later I got a voice memo with the chorus lyrics to ‘Human Nature’ and immediately knew we had an absolute hit. Several years and many writing sessions later with Clive and Andrew, ‘Human Nature’ was born and it dropped today on @sonicenvymusic // @warnermusiccanada

It’s really such an honor being able to co-write and co-produce a @driver405 track with these legends. ‘The Promise’ and ‘Heaven Knows’ have always been massive inspirations.
