“Simplicity, patience, compassion. These three are your greatest treasures. Simple in actions and thoughts, you return to the source of being. Patient with both friends and enemies, you accord with the way things are. Compassionate toward yourself, you reconcile all beings in the world.” - Tao Te Ching by @drjackricci

“When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, ‘Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.’” ~ Fred Rogers ✌️ taken in Planet Earth by @drjackricci

“One of the most powerful forces in life is consistency. Being able to do something in repetition over and over and over again… that’s how you start big movement, that’s how you get big results, that’s how you build a body, that’s how you build a business… Is consistency.” @seanwwhalen taken in Grass Valley, California by @drjackricci

Many of my friends are surprised when they discover that I was in the US military. I suppose it’s because I’m not the military “type.” And it’s true, I’m not. I was almost kicked out twice during my basic training for questioning orders, not following orders and disorderly conduct. Go figure. Nonetheless, I served 5 years and became a better man because of it.

Veteran’s Day always brings mixed emotions for me. On one hand I feel deep appreciation for all those who dedicated their lives to military service for their country. So many men and women have lost their lives, their health or their sanity in service. I honor these individuals.

On the other hand I feel a great sense of sadness and resignation for all the ways in which our military has been (and continues to be) misused and abused by our government(s) and by those in control of our governments.

It’s quite unfortunate because we really could be using our military might to foster peace and to do good deeds for the world. But we don’t.

Maybe one day we will change our ways. I remain hopeful. Peace.

If your modus operandi is to “follow your bliss” then I promise you at some point you’re going to find yourself confronting your own beliefs and the beliefs of your friends, your mate, your family...

You may even find yourself at odds with an entire set of societal beliefs.

This is quite alright, for no real change ever happened without someone putting up a fight for the “old ways.”

The challenge is to remain true to yourself and to trust that your inner wisdom is guiding you in the the most loving way.

Have the courage to trust your inner voice, knowing that it will never misguide you. Peace ✌️ taken in South Yuba River by @drjackricci

I’ve known rivers:

I’ve known rivers ancient as the world and older than the flow of human blood in human veins.

My soul has grown deep like the rivers.

I bathed in the Euphrates when dawns were young.
I built my hut near the Congo and it lulled me to sleep.

I looked upon the Nile and raised the pyramids above it.

I heard the singing of the Mississippi when Abe Lincoln went down to New Orleans, and I’ve seen its muddy bosom turn all golden in the sunset.

I’ve known rivers:
Ancient, dusky rivers.

My soul has grown deep like the rivers. -Langston Hughes taken in South Fork American River by @drjackricci

“They will call you crazy because you are, because you were born with the gift of seeing things differently and that scares them.

They’re going to call you intense because you are, because you were born with the value well placed to allow yourself to feel it all fully and that intimidates them.

They’re going to call you selfish because that’s right, because you found out that you’re the most important thing in your life and that doesn’t suit them.

You’re going to be called in many ways, with many judgments, for a long time, but stay firm on yourself and what you want, and I promise you one day they’re going to call you to say, thank you for existing.”

Parenting advice? Do rad shit with your kids.

“I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.”
