Andrew Huberman shared his thoughts on Parkinson’s Disease and how motivation affects movement.

I think there may be more than motivation, and it may be contextual factors in how the brain generates movement.

Parkinson’s greatly impacts volitional movement because of how it affects the frontal and striatal pathways, but there’s a fair amount of motor activity that relies less on these systems.

That’s where reactionary movement comes into play, which in some Parkinsons’s patients still works relatively well. taken in Keystone Chiropractic and Neuroplasticity by @drjonathanchung

This is the most important lesson I learned while taking care of patients with POTS/Dysautonomia

Working within the patients metabolic capacity is very important for patients with autonomic issues. A patient with autonomic problems tends to have a brain with less tolerance for stimulation.

Exceeding this capacity often comes with crashes and symptom flares that can make patients feel poorly for days.

Finding a Goldilocks amount of therapy can help a patient adapt over time to increase their capacity for stimulation which can build resilience for activity in the real world. taken in Keystone Chiropractic and Neuroplasticity by @drjonathanchung

What can we learn about autonomic symptoms from studying motion sickness?

Symptoms of motion sickness can sometimes look similar to the symptoms people feel when they are having autonomic issues.

The nausea, flushing, blood pressure drops, headaches. Just the general sense of being unwell can be attributed to issues with the sympathetic nervous system.

The idea behind motion sickness involves a theory called sensory mismatch. It means what your brain is expects to happen based on certain senses conflicts with what is happening in reality.

This is an area where the brain can be retrained to habituate excessive stimulation or develop a more accurate prediction by improving our movement and sensory systems. taken in Keystone Chiropractic and Neuroplasticity by @drjonathanchung

5 things I learned from Ron Chernow’s Washington biography.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5 star read

Chernow continues to be a master at biographies. Really felt this brought a lot of humanity to President. We can see his flaws which I think makes him even greater in terms of historical significance.

This was near the top for me for biographies with Team of Rivals and Hamilton. by @drjonathanchung

For my 43rd trip around the sun, I thought about how much has changed in the last 16 years since I started practice.

I keep a portrait of Yoda in our office because I hope that as I get older, I’ll be a little wiser in the care of our patients.

Thank you all for your birthday messages. I’m blessed enough where the thought of responding to everyone is a little overwhelming, but know I’m blessed to know you all and have you as friends. taken in Keystone Chiropractic and Neuroplasticity by @drjonathanchung

A new study may reveal why patients with dizziness may get results from upper cervical chiropractic care. The study published in the Journal of Upper Cervical Chiropractic Research showed that cervical propioception measured by joint position error improves after a single upper cervical adjustment.

Impairment of propioception is thought to be the mechanism for why patients can get dizziness originating from the neck especially after injuries like whiplash and concussion.

Shout out to our friend and up standing chiropractor @dr.chad_summit for putting in the hard work to look at this and study it in a practical way while juggling private practice. An admirable feat! taken in Keystone Chiropractic and Neuroplasticity by @drjonathanchung

The three most important questions for dizzy patients.

Dizziness can be difficult to diagnose accurately, but with a good vestibular clinician, these 3 questions can narrow down the cause of the dizziness in a major way. taken in Keystone Chiropractic and Neuroplasticity by @drjonathanchung

Your autonomic nervous system wasn’t built for the modern world.

Your fight or flight response was made to confront or escape danger. Fundamentally, it’s designed to drive and fuel our muscles for activity.

But modern day stressors aren’t things that drive movement. In fact, most of our stressors involve us being sedentary.

This mismatch might be a reason why stress makes us feel so terrible. We have all this physiology demanding that we move, but our bodies continue to sit still.

This might be why exercise is such a stress reliever. Beyond the inherent positive benefits of exercise, it’s giving us a place to discharge the effects of our stress responses.

That’s why for people that are dizzy and in pain, but are otherwise healthy, they will get so much more from getting 150 min/week of cardio instead of trying the next brain hacking gizmo taken in Keystone Chiropractic and Neuroplasticity by @drjonathanchung
