I’m so grateful to have donated my dotted mandala painting to the Mental Health Unit at Northwick Park Hospital.
It means a lot to know it now lives in a space that supports healing, reflection, and hope.
The team there is doing incredible work every day, and I’m honoured that my art can be a small part of that environment. ✨

Thanks, Jane, for being my guru and teaching me so much. Your assurance about handling paperwork has been a great support. I’m truly grateful for having you as my mentor.#ASCENDCHAIRTYUK #mymentor #myguru #myinspiration by @drkavitasagar

**What happens when you stop seeking perfection and simply feel?**

As my fingers move through the paint, I connect with its colour, texture and movement. My mind becomes quieter, and I allow myself to release, explore and create freely.

What happens when the body has something to say… but words are not enough?
In this somatic art-making session, the participant began using both hands, allowing movement, rhythm and art materials to guide the process.
Somatic art-making brings attention to the connection between:
👐 Hands
🎨 Movement
🫁 Breath
🧠 Body awareness
❤️ Feelings
Sometimes we carry stress, tension and emotion physically.
Creative movement can offer a non-verbal way to notice, express and externalise what we are experiencing, without needing to explain everything in words.
The focus is not on making a “perfect” picture.
It is about:
✨ noticing the body
✨ moving freely
✨ slowing down
✨ connecting with sensations
✨ expressing through marks, colour and movement
✨ allowing both hands to respond naturally
A beautiful session exploring the connection between body, movement and creative expression.
This was a facilitated creative wellbeing activity and not a clinical art psychotherapy intervention.

A beautiful session exploring somatic art-making — using breath, body awareness, movement and intuitive mark-making to create freely. 🎨🌿
The focus was not on the finished artwork, but on noticing sensations, rhythm, movement and expression through the creative process.
This was a non-clinical, studio-based creative workshop ,a space to breathe, notice, move and create.
Such a lovely session. 🤎

Watching alcohol ink flow is a beautiful reminder that not everything needs to be controlled.
As both a art psychotherapist and an art teacher, I’m fascinated by what happens when we allow the process to unfold instead of trying to force the outcome. In our alcohol ink workshop, every piece was unique, just like every person’s journey.

Sometimes creativity begins where perfection ends. 💙✨

Psychodynamic Focus
This painting became a conversation with myself.

I wanted to paint over it completely because I didn’t like what I saw it.

But restoration asks something different: Can I stay with the discomfort instead of rejecting it?

Psychodynamically, this is what rupture and repair often look like.

A rupture is an experience of disconnection, when we feel unseen, misunderstood, or emotionally distant.

Repair happens when those moments are recognised, thought about, and worked through together. The relationship doesn’t become perfect; it becomes stronger because it has survived the break.

Sometimes our greatest growth isn’t found in creating something new, but in restoring our capacity for connection.

Some artworks are not created to decorate a space they are created to hold a feeling.

This piece is dedicated to hope and resilience. Not the kind that ignores pain, but the kind that grows through it. The quiet strength that helps us keep going, even when the path ahead feels uncertain.

Art has a way of expressing what words often cannot. It gives shape to emotions, creates space for reflection, and reminds us that healing is rarely linear, but it is always possible.

May this piece encourage you to pause, reconnect with yourself, and remember that even in life’s most challenging moments, hope can still take root.

Creating with clay is more than making art,it’s a way of connecting with yourself. The sensation of shaping, pressing, and moulding clay can help slow the mind, regulate the nervous system, and gently bring emotions to the surface. In art psychotherapy, clay offers a safe, non-verbal way to explore feelings that may be difficult to express with words. Sometimes healing begins with our hands.

What a fantastic way to celebrate turning six! 🎉✨

Instead of a traditional party activity, we created a beautiful collaborative scrapbook filled with artwork, memories, imagination, and personal touches. Every page reflected the children’s unique ideas while encouraging them to work together, share, create, and celebrate one another.

It was especially meaningful to collaborate with an merging art psychotherapist perspective , bringing together creativity and emotional expression in a way that allowed every child to feel included and valued. Creative activities like this help build confidence, strengthen communication, encourage problem-solving, and provide a wonderful opportunity for children to express themselves in a safe and joyful environment. Watching the scrapbook come to life, page by page, was such a special reminder that the most meaningful keepsakes are often the ones we create together. by @drkavitasagar
