You’re Not Tired—It’s Ptosis!
Our patient was referred to Dr. Karen Brown after noticing that her left eyelid droopiness had progressively worsened over the past few years. She found herself frequently raising her brow to enhance her vision. After her comprehensive consultation, it was concluded that she would benefit from Bilateral Upper Blepharoplasty and Bilateral Ptosis Repair to achieve her desired results.
Three months post-surgery, her postoperative photo highlights her remarkable transformation while maintaining a natural appearance. Her eyelids now look symmetrical, and she no longer needs to lift her brow for better visibility. Dr. Brown is available to see patients in **San Antonio**, **San Marcos**, **Fredericksburg**, **Boerne**, **Kerrville**, and **New Braunfels**.
We are truly honored that she trusted us with her surgical journey.

We won an important research award! 🥳 Our recent @toceyeandface fellowship graduate, Dr. Karen Brown (now heading up TOC San Antonio) won the Bartley Frueh Award for Best YASOPRS Presentation at our recent ASOPRS fall meeting! 🏆 Our study (senior fellow @makaylamc.md was a coauthor too!) introduced a technique many patients and surgeons may not realize is a powerful option: customized tattooing to camouflage scars.

Lucky for me and my patients, Erica Miles (@ericamilesbeauty) is a talented medical tattoo artist with a background in cosmetology here in Austin.🤩 Erica and I connected over social media about five years ago and have since been sharing patients. With her expertise as a makeup artist-turned-tattooist, she has mastered the 🎨 🖌️ art of color layering to match skin tones—effectively creating a permanent makeup solution for scars.

📊 Our study analyzed:
✅ The visual improvement of scars before & after tattooing
✅ Patient satisfaction and self-perception after treatment
Our results showed that treated scars significantly improved in pigmentation, vascularity, and overall quality.

This technique merges oculofacial plastics, makeup artistry, tattooing, and scientific research—offering a 🎯 powerful option for patients looking to reduce the visibility of scars. More surgeons should be aware of this game-changing approach!

✨Expect Natural Results from Your Surgeon✨ Many men often hesitate to consider surgery due to the fear of appearing "overdone." However, it is entirely possible for functional and cosmetic procedures to harmonize, resulting in a very natural outcome.

Dr. Karen Brown received a referral for a 72-year-old patient struggling with droopy eyelids. Over the years, he has experienced a gradual worsening of this condition, which has begun to impact his vision. At times, he resorts to manually lifting his eyelids or raising his forehead to improve his sight. This challenge has limited his ability to engage in daily activities like reading and driving. Symptoms tend to intensify in the evenings or when he is fatigued. After his consultation, he was scheduled for an Upper and Lower Blepharoplasty, a Brow-Plasty, and an Ectropion Repair. His "After" photo is one month post-surgery. He is incredibly pleased with the outcome, and we couldn't be happier for him.

We are so proud of TOC’s Dr. Karen Brown and Dr. Makayla McCoskey, they have just returned from an incredible week with the World Pediatrics Eye/Plastics team in St. Vincent. The team performed over 30 surgeries for children from six different countries in the region. The ophthalmology \ oculoplastic teams procedures included congenital ptosis repair, removal of orbital and facial tumors, nasolacrimal duct obstruction repair, congenital ectropion repair, eyelid retraction repair, and strabismus surgery.

This is just a glimpse of the extensive work done by World Pediatrics, with ophthalmology and oculoplastics being just one of 21 pediatric specialties offered by their teams. WP conducts more than 38 trips each year to 17 partner countries across Central America and the Caribbean.

We had a great week with the World Pediatrics eye/ plastics team in St.Vincent. Together we performed over 30 surgeries for children from six countries in the region. For the eye team, these surgeries includes congenital ptosis repair, orbital and facial tumor removal, nasolacrimal duct obstruction repair, congenital ectropion repair, eyelid retraction repair, and strabismus surgery.

This is just a fraction of what World Pediatrics does, with ophthalmology/oculoplastics being only one of 21 pediatric specialties covered by their teams. WP completes 38+ trips per year to 17 partner countries in Central America and the Caribbean. It is quite rare for a patient to experience ectropion in one eye while having entropion in the other, as both conditions typically arise from similar factors such as aging and weakened eyelid muscles, which generally impact both eyes at the same time.

This patient was referred to Dr. Karen Brown for a consultation in San Marcos regarding his entropion. He experienced persistent irritation in his right eye due to his eyelashes rubbing against his cornea and was using a band-aid contact lens for protection and to alleviate the discomfort. Following a thorough consultation, it was also discovered that he had ectropion on his lower left eyelid. He underwent entropion repair on his lower right eyelid and ectropion repair on his lower left eyelid, and his results look amazing in his three-week post-operative photo. We are honored that he trusted us with his care.
