This was me.

I would sit and cry in my car in the parking garage before work.

Then I’d wipe my tears and put on a happy face for my team, patients and family.

I was the only one who knew I was suffering.

In the outside everything looked great. I was making great money, driving a sports car, publishing in the top journals, speaking on the biggest stages, and doing really good clinical work in my Beverly Hills practice.

But on the inside I had big challenges like litigation, extortion, debilitating back pain, clinical complications, and my priorities were all wrong.

I wanted more time off, more time with my kids and wife, better physical health, better communication, better boundaries, and better expectations.

I didn’t know what I had to do but I knew I needed to do something. Because I’m a research nerd, I dove into the research to better understand myself.

I started studying positive psychology, personal growth, the science of communication styles, the science of overachievers, evolutionary biology, and all the “soft skills” I was never taught.

Then my life completely changed. My career took off, my practice grew, my relationships were at such a deeper level, and I was so thankful that I made the decision to change my life.

But at the time, there were very few resource for mental and relational health for dental professionals so I made it my mission to help and prevent those from going through what I went through in “the dark side of dentistry.”

I’m on a mission to help 100,000 dental professionals master their mental and relational health for sustainable success in their career.

Helping colleagues with these challenges has been the most rewarding thing I’ve done in my career so a big “thank you” to anyone who shares my posts, invites me to speak, takes my courses, listens to my podcasts, or likes and comments on my content.

Together we can change the trajectory of this great profession. ❤️

There’s something so different about how medical doctors set expectations and how dental professionals do it.

This has led to a weird dichotomy of what patients expect in longevity of different procedures.

I was so bad at setting true expectations with patients because I was worried about them not doing treatment with me.

My patients had crazy unrealistic expectations but I had to look internally because it was my fault for not setting the expectations and communicating them clearly.

I was lacking clarity and implying unrealistic expectations. This led to challenging crucial conversations, free redos, returning money paid, and burnout on my end.

I’ve now created an entire CE protocol on how to set these expectations and boundaries with patients because nobody ever taught me this.

I call it the Complication Compliance Method™️ and you can pick it up for the price of a few tacos (at least a few tacos in California 🏄🏼‍♂️🌮)

We’ve already had over 2,000 dentists join this CE course in the last year!

Just comment the word “COMPLICATION” and I’ll send you the link.

You can earn 1 CE credit for learning this technique.

Thanks for all the support! 😁 by @drkylestanley

I never knew about opportunities like this until I got into the tech world.

This company is growing 40-60% month over month in the creator economy and changing so many lives which is why I’m personally investing.

Our live call with the founders is Tuesday October 6th at 6pm PT

If you want to learn more about the investment, comment T26 and I’ll send you the link to register. by @drkylestanley

Your patients think you’re rich.

They see the nice office. The white coat. The new car out front.

Your accountant knows the truth.

I know a lot of dentists. Like, hundreds of them. From all over the world.

Most of them make pretty good money. And a lot of them still struggle to build real wealth.

That one stings. You spent years in school. You spend your days staring into strangers’ mouths. You’d think the money would be stacking up by now.

Instead it’s like running on a treadmill for 20 years. You finally check the screen and it says zero miles.

That’s not just annoying. It’s real stress.

Researchers have a list of six big things that cause long-term stress. One of them is reward. That’s when you put in the work and never see the payoff.

They call it the “chronic stress Petri dish.” Which sounds like something you’d find growing behind the break room fridge.

So how do you fix the reward part? You invest.

But telling a dentist to “just invest” is like telling a patient to “just floss.” Everyone nods. Nobody knows where to start.

There are a ton of ways to do it. Stocks. Real estate. Whatever crypto coin your patient brought up while your hands were in his mouth.

My rule is simple. I invest where I have knowledge and connections.

For me, that’s tech startups. I now advise 12 tech companies.

And one of them in the creator space is doing something cool. They’re letting my audience invest in this round. Usually you have to know someone to get a seat at that table.

So we’re doing a live webinar to walk you through it. You’ll get the details. And you can ask all the questions you want.

It’s this Tuesday, October 6th at 6pm Pacific.

Comment “T26” and I’ll send you the link to register.

Hope to see you Tuesday. Let’s get your money doing some of the work for once. by @drkylestanley

Big thanks to @paacademyofgeneraldentistry for having me out for a 2 day event in Pittsburgh. 🖤💛

This is a special city to me as both sides of my family once lived there.

Got to make some new friends and share my teachings with my colleagues and even residents and dental students.

I hope to be back soon! by @drkylestanley

There's a version of you that doesn't exist outside the office.

No hobbies. No identity. No real answer to "so what do you do for fun?" that doesn't somehow circle back to occlusion or implants.

That version of you is one bad day from a full breakdown.

Here's how it works. You spend years becoming a dentist. The training is brutal. The debt is real. The expectations are insane. So naturally, your brain goes: okay, THIS is who I am now. Dentist. Full stop.

Which is fine. Until a case goes sideways.

And suddenly it's not just a clinical complication. It's an identity crisis wearing a lab coat.

(That's a lot of weight to put on a crown prep, honestly.)

When your self-worth lives entirely inside your operatory, every bad outcome feels personal. Every complication is proof of something. Every difficult patient is a verdict on you as a human being.

That's what happens when you accidentally hand your whole soul to a profession and forget to keep some for yourself.

The fix isn't complicated. But it IS uncomfortable.

You have to build a version of yourself that exists outside the office. A reason to matter that has nothing to do with whether that implant integrated or that patient left happy.

When you have that, a rough Tuesday is just a rough Tuesday.

Without it, a rough Tuesday is an existential crisis with a deductible.

That's exactly what Martin and I discuss in Light Side Live, our 2-day transformational CE course. We dig into the stuff nobody in dental school bothered to mention, like who you are when the handpiece is down and what actually holds you together when the hard days hit.

Come learn leadership, mental health, and communication skills that actually make a difference in your life. Nov 6-7 in Phoenix. 12 CE credits.
