As edifying as the song Kumama Papa is, it takes me back to being grateful for the days of humble beginnings.

It would interest you to know that since I was 19 years old, I have been in LEADERSHIP.

I have seen the power of leadership and seen young people who said, "I dont believe in this country" but today they have become nation builders after I trained them.

If we must get Nigeria to prosper, changing government is not enough.

Part of it is to transform the people's thinking.

The quality of thinking of the people MUST change from materialism thinking to a visionary thinking.

We must change the mentality of the people to prosperity and selfless thinking.

That's the fundamental path towards how we can drive progress in our country.

I am also training a generation of leaders whose minds are transformed, people who understand that values are relevant to economic growth @gotnileadershipcentre

The suffering of the people is connected to lack of leadership capital. When people's minds are not developed, they would steal all the money they can see.

For me it is the most important thing to develop our people.

Collectively, we want to help our people to make progress..

It starts with you #LinusOkorie #LeadershipExpert by @drlinusokorie

A title can be handed to you in a day. Influence has to be earned, one relationship at a time.

Contrary to popular knowledge, leadership is not measured by the title on your door or desk. It is measured by the weight of your presence in the lives of the people around you.

In this week's Letter of Leadership Letters, I explain three critical levels for which real influence is built.

From Katherine Johnson's calculations to Oliver Tambo's loyalty and Shackleton's crew, this letter shows what it means to lead beyond position.

Read the full letter exclusively on WhatsApp through the link in my bio or the comment section.

Which of these three levels is hardest for you right now?

As we approach the final stretch of the year, before you create your next strategy document or your next round of targets, ask yourself and your team these five questions honestly.

They will tell you more about where your organisation actually stands than any report will.

What are we pretending not to know?
Where are we quietly losing trust?
Who in this room can challenge me safely, and does anyone actually test that?
What decision keeps resurfacing because we treated the symptom and never the root?
And what must become true in the next ninety days for this quarter to count as progress and not just motion?

Most CEOs are good at answering questions they're asked. The leaders who last are the ones willing to ask themselves the ones nobody else will.

Ideas move the world forward, but creativity determines how far we can take them.

During his session at the National Leadership Conference 2026, Linus Okorie MFR, CEO of GOTNI Leadership Centre and Convener of NLC, challenged participants to rethink how they approach ideas and innovation.

Much of what we hope to create has already been done in one form or another. The opportunity lies in looking beyond what already exists, questioning familiar approaches, making new connections, and finding better ways to solve existing problems.

Watch a snippet from the session and reflect on this question: Are you simply repeating what has been done before, or are you thinking differently about what is possible?

Every time I think about the titles I have been given as a leader, all that comes to mind is that they have an expiry date.

Every title does.

What doesn't expire, if it was built well, is the culture a leader shaped, the institution a leader strengthened, the principle a leader refused to compromise, and the people a leader deliberately developed to carry something forward without needing the leader's name attached to it.

Transformational leadership is measured, in part, by what remains standing the day your name is no longer on the door. Not what was achieved while you held the position. What continues functioning well after the position has moved on to someone else.

So ask yourself honestly tonight: if your title disappeared tomorrow, and I don't mean the street that is named after you, what would still be standing because you built it to last longer than your tenure?

That answer is closer to your real legacy than anything on your business card.

Relationships are not networking points to be collected and cashed in when convenient.

Did you get that?

Relationships are the trust reserves a leader draws on precisely when certainty disappears, when the data runs out, when the plan stops working and all that's left is whether people are still willing to stay in the room with you.

Most leaders only discover how much relational capital they have, or don't have, in a crisis. The investor meeting where the numbers are bad and someone still chooses to believe in the vision. The team meeting where the strategy has failed twice and people still choose to try a third time, because of who's leading them, not because of what's being proposed.

That willingness is not automatic. It is built, slowly, in the ordinary moments nobody is grading: showing up for a colleague's hard season with nothing to gain from it, remembering what someone told you six months ago and following up without being asked, giving credit generously when it would have cost you nothing to keep it.

Strong relational capital does not mean people always agree with you. It means they are willing to stay in the conversation with you when the answer is not yet clear, because experience has taught them that staying is worth it.

Most leaders only notice this asset the day they need it and discover it isn't there. Don't be that leader. Build it on the ordinary days, long before you ever need to spend it.

As a founder, you work with pride knowing that nothing in your company moves without your sign-off. Every deal, hire, and every hard conversation with a client, all passes through you first.

Do you sleep?

Then you admit that you haven't taken a proper weekend off in two years, because the moment you step away, everything seems to slow down, waiting for you to come back and unlock it again.

This is the part nobody warns founders about.

In the early days, your instinct, speed, and relationships weren't only useful, they were the entire engine. You close the deal because nobody else can read the client the way you can. You approve every hire because you trust your gut more than any process. You hold the company together because you're the one who built the relationships holding it there. It works. It works brilliantly, for a while.

Then the company grows past what one person was ever built to carry, and you don't notice the exact moment it happens, because nothing breaks. Things just quietly start taking longer. The decision that used to take an hour now takes a week because it's still routed through you, and you now have ten times the decisions waiting in line.

It wasn't a mistake when you built it that way. It was the only way to build something out of nothing. The mistake is believing it should stay built the same way once nothing has become something significant.

Your speed becomes a bottleneck when every decision still waits on you. Your control becomes a ceiling when no one beneath you has been trusted with real authority. Even your relationships become fragile, because they were never built into anything that could function without you in the room. It stings…it really stings.

What got you here will not take you there. It was never supposed to. So ask yourself whether you're still the engine pushing that thing forward, or whether you've quietly become the limit it keeps running into.

What's one decision you're still holding onto that someone else on your team is actually ready to carry?

You can have different people around the table and still have a room where only one person’s opinion matters.

The real test of inclusive leadership is not who gets invited into the room. It is whose voice can influence what happens in it.

In this week’s Leadership Letter, “Leading Through Difference,” we explore what it takes to create an environment where people can think differently, disagree constructively, and contribute to something greater than themselves.

To read the full letter, click the link in the comment section or visit the Linus Okorie WhatsApp Channel.

See you on the other side of Distinctive Inclusive Leadership.

One of the privileges of growing older is discovering that not every argument deserves a response, not every invitation deserves a yes, and not every problem is yours to solve.

Wisdom is expensive. Some of us paid full price.

It's a great day to spend it well.
Have a good one!

One of the clearest tests of leadership is what happens to people under your leadership. Do they simply meet the demands placed on them, or do they become more capable because they have been developed?

That distinction matters.

Leadership is not simply about setting high expectations and demanding strong performance. Beyond the surface, it is about creating the capacity, confidence and competence required for people to meet those expectations.

You can demand results from people, but if you have not invested in their growth, you are asking performance to outrun preparation.

The strongest leaders understand that developing people is not a side responsibility of leadership. It is one of its central responsibilities.

Invest in their thinking. Stretch their capacity. Give them room to make decisions. Expose them to experiences that prepare them for greater responsibility.

Because when you develop people, you do more than improve performance. You expand the capacity of the organisation.

Through my years in leadership, I have come to believe that one of the clearest measures of leadership effectiveness is not only what your people can deliver today, but what they become capable of delivering because you invested in them.
