Play or fight? Here's how to tell.

If your cat and dog are actually getting along, you'll usually see: Loose, bouncy body language (not stiff or frozen), taking turns being chased, pauses that don't end in anyone storming off, play bows from your dog and relaxed ears/tail from your cat.

Real tension looks different: Stiff bodies, pinned ears, puffed-up tails, growling or hissing that doesn't stop, one of them trying to get away (and not being able to).

Know your pets. Know their signals. And don’t rush new introductions - these relationships take time to build, often over many months (or years). Not all of them will become best friends, but if they do…it’s a true joy to have in your home ❤️🙏 by @drlisachimes

Dental care is the chore every dog parent dreads:

→ They bolt the second they see a toothbrush
→ You're left holding a slobbery brush with nowhere to put it
→ Honestly? For some it’s just too much hassle for a daily habit

That's exactly why I made these dental wipes. Quick, easy, and compostable, so you wipe and toss, no fuss, no excuses.

Fresher breath without the wrestling match. 💖 by @drlisachimes

Came home smelling like the entire park. 🐾 💖

30 seconds, one wipe, crisis averted.

Paws, belly, bum, done. No bath required.

Who else is wiping instead of bathing? 👇 by @drlisachimes

Halloween is fun until it’s an emergency vet visit…

Every year over Halloween, we hospitalise dogs who have raided trick-or-treat stashes. Chocolate, candy, the wrappers, all of it. And the places that dogs can actually get into to source the human treats would shock you!

So leave the lollies and chocolate for the humans. And if you want to spoil your dog this Halloween, reach for something made for them instead. I’m giving my dogs their favourite @Prime100petfood single protein treats - they’re made in Australia and there’s a protein for your dog’s needs. They’ll love it more than the chocolate!

Happy Halloween 🎃🐶

Here’s your annual reminder that the ER is extra busy over Halloween. We treat pets that have eaten chocolate and candy from trick-or-treat stashes, decorations and even costumes. Watch out for toxic xylitol in sugar-free candy and gum as well.

As you can see, I look VERY tired this week 🤦‍♀️ but I felt extra trendy in my new @wearfigs Dark Acai coloured scrubs - I’m loving the long sleeve top and how pet hair doesn’t stick to the FIONx™️ fabric!

While I love all of my patients, there’s something special about helping those that are the most vulnerable.

Unfortunately this kitten has been abandoned by his mother and needs to be hand raised. Luckily he has a dedicated nurse to care for him until he’s able to be rehomed 🙏❤️ by @drlisachimes

A simple microscope is one of the most helpful tools we have in the hospital. No matter how much tech advances, sometimes the simple tests that we do ourselves can give us the quickest answers.

We can collect samples from lumps, blood, urine, joints, or any fluid accumulation in the body…and we use a microscope to look for inflammation, bacteria, cancers, blood disorders, urinary disease and more. In some cases, what we see under the microscope can be the deciding factor in whether an animal has life-saving emergency surgery.

So if your vet asks whether they can have a look at a sample under the microscope - let them. It may just save your pet’s life ❤️ by @drlisachimes

The highs and lows of the emergency room…
This patient came in with breathing difficulty and I performed a lifesaving procedure called thoracocentesis to drain fluid from their chest. They feel instant relief once the pleural fluid is removed because their lungs can expand again. In some patients, the fluid build-up is caused by treatable conditions…in other patients, especially if they are older, the prognosis may not be so good 😔
So if you notice any breathing changes in your pet, no matter how subtle they are, visit your nearest vet straight away.

Is your dog constantly itchy, dealing with digestive troubles, or getting recurrent ear infections? It might not be "just sensitive skin", it could be a protein allergy.

Swipe through for 3 signs I see as a vet that point to a food allergy in dogs.

The tricky part? It's not always the protein you'd expect. That's why I love working with @prime100petfood - their single protein formulas make it so much easier to find out what's actually triggering your dog's symptoms.

If any of this sounds familiar, don't just guess. Chat to your vet about a dietary elimination trial. It's the only way to know for sure. #ad by @drlisachimes

Possums seem to have their haters 😢…but for me it’s all love! by @drlisachimes

You probably know that this cat has put a spell on me. As someone who was always a dog person…I am officially a hybrid now. Here’s some Jade spam ❤️ by @drlisachimes
