Beautiful views of Scotland? A natural wilderness. But as a botanist I find it difficult to reconcile those ideas with the reality of classic Scotish scenery. The stories these first three pictures tell, is of heavy handed management, often paraded as Conservation.
One Estate information board claimed to be promoting biodiversity, whilst trapping foxes and weasels in order to protect ground nesting birds! Burning moorland benefits shooting birds but also prevents sucession.
And yes, vast areas of scotish hillsides are swathed in trees- conifer plantation devoid of ground flora. Compare that to the stunning native woodlands, clinging to steep sided Glens, or the remaining patches of Caledonian Pine forest, where real biodiversiy thrives. by @drlizzykay

Maybe my first fell run!? I have never liked walking (too slow), so in order to see some of this stunning scenery I put on my running shoes and set off. I did walk up and down the steepest bits, but ran for a lot of the route. A great way to complete a 10k loop. Why has it taken me so long to work this out? Crossing into Portugal was a bit of a culture shock. Yes @faye.t75 rowbridge the cobbles did carry on for a long time, in all the villages and towns on all the roads but the major ones. But they have skillfully laid with very few potholes, and are fine for cars if not for bicycle trailers. Further south they have been less frequent.
Two years ago @martindorey and I drove along a pristine piece of tarmac in the middle of nowhere wondering why it was there. From the top of an observation tower we saw two cyclists and that was the moment when I said to Martin "We could do that!". And two years later here we are!
The pristine tarmac has become an awesome cycle path extending on far beyond the section we drove, although the last 3 kilometre are as yet unpaved. And here you can still see the absolute skill of a road paved in the tiniest cobbles, soon to be lost forever. I hope they leave a section untarmac ed as a reminder of those past efforts. by @drlizzykay

The end of our 8th week and we are about to leave Spain. I love Spain a lot more than France and not just because its campsites and public toilets have toilet seats, toilet paper and often soap (what is it about the French when it comes to basic?).
Spain generally seems happier, more laid back, and more egalitarian. It is also very hilly at times and a bit damp and cold too, but it has still been amazing to cycle though.
And from day one of the hills @martindorey has kept going without any tears. He has come a very long way since our first cycle together in Scotland and I am very impressed and proud of him. taken in Baiona, Galicia, España by @drlizzykay

Two of our three trips to our favourite Panaderia by the Marina where we met Jesus, Spain's oldest surfer on his beautiful wooden boat. We have never explored Santander, but loved both our time in the city centre and the cycle along the headland to the campsite. taken in Puerto Chico Santander by @drlizzykay

When the day doesn't go so well.
Fell off my bike this morning!
Have eaten so much food this evening to make up for a seeming lack of nutrients, mainly vegetables.
Now sat in all my warm clothes, again.
But it is still an amazing adventure. by @drlizzykay

The last two day's runs and dips. Both shortish but with lots of ups and downs.
