When your child is getting ready for college, choosing the right school is about more than academics, rankings, or location. Parents are often judged for the choices they make, while also having to consider factors that can deeply impact their child’s experience, especially when it comes to racial equity, representation, belonging, and opportunity for Black students.

For many families, finding the right college means asking the bigger questions: Will my child feel supported? Will they see themselves represented? And will they have the same opportunities to thrive?

The academic job market doesn’t always work the same way as other industries. As Dr. Michael explains, careers in academia can come with unique barriers and challenges, particularly for Black professionals, that may look very different from what we see in fields like finance or healthcare.

Understanding these differences matters because the path to opportunity, advancement, and representation isn’t the same across every industry.

Sometimes, the conversation isn’t about the case itself. It’s about what the case makes us confront.

In this episode, Dr. Marjorie was hesitant to spend more time discussing the Nolan Wells case, but Dr. Michael wanted to connect the case to something much closer to home: our own children, their friendships, their school environments, and the diverse communities they navigate.

Because sometimes, difficult cases force parents to look beyond the headlines and ask how these realities may show up in their own children’s lives, relationships, and experiences growing up in America.

What happens when a mother is bullied simply for asking questions?

For many Black parents, advocating for their children can come with its own set of challenges. Speaking up, asking for answers, and making sure their children are treated fairly should not feel like something they have to be afraid to do.

This conversation goes beyond one mother’s experience. It raises important questions about what Black parents face when they advocate for their children and how those experiences shape the way they prepare their children to navigate schools, communities, and predominantly white spaces in America.

Dr. Marjorie and Michael explore what it means to raise Black children who know their worth, understand their environment, and feel empowered to speak up for themselves.

The safety and well being of Black children continues to be an important conversation for parents raising their children in America.

The Nolan Wells case brought difficult questions to the surface for many Black parents about raising children, navigating predominantly white spaces, and helping them understand the realities they may encounter.

Dr. Marjorie and Michael are not speculating about the case. Instead, they are discussing the broader conversations that parents need to have about safety, identity, awareness, and raising Black children in America in 2026.

🔍 Can you actually control your own Google Workspace search history?

Dr. Marjorie breaks down something many of us overlook: how Google Workspace can retain and surface information about your activity, and why you may not have as much control over that history as you think.

Your searches, browsing activity, and digital footprint can tell a bigger story than you realize 👀

But here’s the question: Should we have more control over our own information?

What do you think? Comment below 💬

Sometimes love sounds like a reminder.

Did you finish your homework? Did you pack your bag? Did you remember what we talked about? Did you actually do the thing you said you would do?

That kind of nagging can feel annoying in the moment. But sometimes parents need someone reminding them that consistency, structure, and follow through are part of raising independent kids too.

The goal is not to manage every task forever. It is to give children enough guidance that, over time, they can learn to manage those things themselves.

Parenting is not just about stepping back. Sometimes you have to stay close long enough to teach.
