The elbow joint is a complex hinge joint that connects the upper arm to the forearm, allowing essential movements such as flexion, extension, and forearm rotation.

πŸ“Œ Important Anatomical Structures: πŸ”Ή Humerus – The bone of the upper arm.
πŸ”Ή Radius – The forearm bone on the thumb side.
πŸ”Ή Ulna – The forearm bone on the little-finger side.
πŸ”Ή Capitulum & Trochlea – Articular surfaces of the humerus that connect with the radius and ulna.
πŸ”Ή Radial Head – Plays an important role in forearm rotation.
πŸ”Ή Medial & Lateral Epicondyles – Important attachment sites for muscles and ligaments.
πŸ”Ή Olecranon & Coronoid Process – Important bony landmarks that contribute to elbow stability and movement.

🩺 Clinical Importance in Physiotherapy: Understanding elbow anatomy is essential for assessing joint mobility, muscle function, ligament stability, and conditions such as tennis elbow, golfer's elbow, and elbow fractures.

🦴 ANATOMY OF RADIUS & ULNA | FOREARM BONES

πŸ“š Anatomy Made Easy!

The radius and ulna are the two long bones of the forearm that play an essential role in upper limb movement, stability, and function.

πŸ”Ή Radius: Located on the thumb side of the forearm. It plays a major role in wrist movement and forearm rotation.

πŸ”Ή Ulna: Located on the little-finger side of the forearm. It contributes significantly to elbow joint stability.

πŸ“Œ Important Anatomical Landmarks: βœ… Head and neck of the radius
βœ… Radial tuberosity
βœ… Olecranon process
βœ… Coronoid process
βœ… Trochlear notch
βœ… Ulnar tuberosity
βœ… Styloid processes of the radius and ulna
βœ… Radial and ulnar notches

πŸ’‘ Clinical Significance: Understanding these anatomical landmarks is essential for physiotherapy students, medical students, and healthcare professionals when studying joint mechanics, fractures, and rehabilitation techniques.

🦴 LAYERS OF WRIST ANATOMY | A COMPLETE GUIDE πŸ–οΈβœ¨

Have you ever wondered what lies beneath the skin of your wrist? πŸ€”

The wrist is a complex anatomical structure made up of multiple layers that work together to provide stability, support, and movement.

πŸ”¬ Important Layers of Wrist Anatomy: βœ… Skin – Provides external protection. βœ… Subcutaneous Fat – Cushions and insulates underlying tissues. βœ… Superficial Fascia – Connects the skin to deeper tissues. βœ… Deep Fascia – Surrounds and supports muscles. βœ… Muscles – Help control wrist and finger movements. βœ… Tendons – Transmit muscle force to move the wrist and fingers. βœ… Extensor Retinaculum – Holds extensor tendons in place. βœ… Ligaments – Connect bones and provide joint stability. βœ… Joint Capsule – Encloses the wrist joint. βœ… Articular Cartilage – Reduces friction between joint surfaces. βœ… Bones – Provide structural support and enable movement.

πŸ’‘ Clinical Importance: Understanding wrist anatomy is essential for physiotherapists and healthcare professionals when assessing wrist pain, tendon injuries, ligament sprains, and movement restrictions.

Definition: Spondylolysis is a defect or stress fracture in the pars interarticularis of a vertebra, most commonly at L5.

### Causes

* Repetitive stress and microtrauma.

* Repeated lumbar extension and rotation.

* Sports such as gymnastics, football, and weightlifting.

### Clinical Features

* Low back pain, especially during lumbar extension.

* Pain increases with sports or physical activity.

* Local tenderness over the affected vertebra.

* Hamstring tightness may be present.

### Diagnosis / Investigations

* X-ray: Oblique view may show the Scottie dog sign with a defect or collar.

* CT scan: Best for detailed assessment of the bony defect.

* MRI: Helps detect an early stress reaction and assess soft tissues.

### Management

* Conservative treatment: Rest from aggravating activities and activity modification.

* Physiotherapy: Core stabilization, gradual strengthening, flexibility exercises, and avoiding painful lumbar hyperextension.

* Bracing: May be considered in selected cases.

* Surgery: Rarely required if symptoms persist despite appropriate treatment.

### Important Exam Point

Spondylolysis = defect in the pars interarticularis.

If the affected vertebra slips forward over the vertebra below it, the condition is called spondylolisthesis. by @drnoorbutt
