Sur was one of Oman's great maritime and dhow-building ports and the lighthouse marked the harbor entrance for centuries of trading vessels. Accounts of its exact origins vary, some trace a structure here back to the 16th-century Portuguese presence, others date the built lighthouse to the early 20th century.

What's clearer is its modern form: Late Sultan Qaboos ordered the lighthouse's construction/renovation in 1996 expanding and refining the earlier structure with elevated, properly built walls and an added night beacon.

If you ask me where's the only place I would love to visit over and over again, it's here. There is always a reason to come back. As we witness new developments at the Muttrah Corniche waiting to be opened soon, I hope to include this new phase in my next shot
