Our Transactional Law Team continues to sharpen its negotiation skills and learn from experienced transactional attorneys!

On Tuesday night, the Team’s Classroom Component, taught by Prof. Viviana Bowe, welcomed Gustavo Gutierrez, Esq. (’03) of Preventive Law Solutions and Dropping Dimes Consulting.

As part of a class exercise, Gustavo challenged our students to negotiate the purchase of “Bowe’s Ballers,” the fictional business featured in Prof. Bowe’s transactional law class. Each team had just a few minutes to prepare before facing Gustavo across the negotiating table. He also shared practical insights into the realities of practicing law, including his experience starting his own firm and what the day-to-day life of an attorney actually looks like.

This is one of the big debates amongst parents and athletes! Is specializing in one sport early the key to success? The reality is that there is no right or wrong answer, every athlete’s path is different. The general arguments are that Multi-Sport athletes may develop broader athletic skills, reduce burnout, and enjoy a more balanced sports experience. While, Single-Sport athletes may gain additional sport specific training, competition experience, and skill development.

The right choice depends on factors like the athlete’s goals, age, physical development, interests, and overall well being. Before making a long-term decision, understand the opportunities, trade offs, and potential impact on recruitment, development, and enjoyment of the game.

At Dropping Dimes Consulting, we want athletes and families to make informed decisions, not emotional ones. Educate yourself, analyze your specific situation and don’t just follow the crowd.

Parent sideline behavior in youth sports has been the punchline of social media accounts and late-night shows for years.

We’ve all seen it. The parent who watches in silence. The one who cheers for every play. The one constantly coaching from the stands. The one arguing with referees, coaches, or even their own child.

I’m certainly not here to correct anyone, and I’d be lying if I said I’ve always gotten it right myself. 🫣

Someone once said something to me that has stayed with me ever since:

“Your kids are watching. And they’ll often mirror what they see - not just in sports, but in life and relationships.”

That stuck with me.

Since then, I’ve tried to keep that thought at the forefront every time I sit in the stands. Because while our kids are playing the game, they’re also learning how to handle adversity, success, frustration, respect, and accountability.

And sometimes they’re learning it from us.

On June 22, 2026 the NCAA is expected to vote on the proposed “5-in-5” based aged eligibility model 📈

If approved:

- Athletes could compete for 5 seasons instead of the current 4.
- Eligibility would start after high school graduation (or age 19) whichever comes first.
- Traditional redshirts and many waiver requests would disappear.
- Limited exceptions would remain for military service, religious missions, and pregnancy.
- Rosters, recruiting, scholarships, and transfers will all be impacted.

This could be one of the biggest NCAA eligibility changes in years.
