A year ago today, I made the tough decision to choose me. Believe in me. Believe that I could move forward. The only regret I have is not making the decision sooner. Let me explain.

I went to my first WW meeting in 7th grade. I continued to work my way through almost every business that supported diet and weightloss. If you can think of a diet, I have tried it. And the result was always the same, some wins, some losses, but always a lot of gains in the wrong direction.

For 36 years, I have been successfully unsuccessful at losing weight. I finally reached a point that I was scared that I would not wake in the morning.

A year ago today when I walked into the hospital for Bariatric surgery, I was nervous about being late. I was not worried about the surgery or what came after. I just wanted to move forward and believe in me.

This has been a tough year. Don’t let anyone tell you surgery is the easy way out. It is a tool. And with great doctors, and support from friends and family, I have used the tool to choose me.

Here are a few pictures from my journey. I am not posting for kudos, but rather for anyone who might need some support.

It’s Mocs Give Day, UTC’s 24-hour day of giving! Support the mission of environmental education by supporting the Spring Wildflower Pilgrimage non-profit organization, run out of the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.

Your generosity matters more than you might realize! Last year, donations made up nearly 30% of SWFP income. That support directly helps keep registration within reach, houses and feeds our volunteer leaders, and brings families, students, and school groups into nature’s greatest classroom - the rich landscapes of the Smokies.

Now that I have graduated from PT for my planar fasciitis, I am walking more on surface streets. I have been surprised to find a very biodiverse ditch that is growing these blue bottles, of the Skyy genus. Such an odd phenomenon.
