Thank you to my fellow music professionals at the “The Grammys” and Recording Academy . I look forward to returning to add my voice to the integrity of music and people. Nice email to receive today while in the studio finishing some new music. 🙏🏻 #iamtheacademy taken in National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences by @drrickhendrix

Very sad my old boss Clive Davis passed. I wake up today and the first voice someone said to me was Clive died. My heart sunk. When I was ran out of a room for not being educated enough, he followed me. When I believed in a song over a chart, he let me lead. He bet on my ears, my heart, and my instincts to find and push music that changed more than a persons life, it changed the world they lived in.

But what I remember most isn't the hits. It's the cookies.
When my world was falling apart many times, or losing my momma and daddy, he somehow knew exactly what I needed. Little bags of Famous Amos cookies would hit my mailbox.

Most people would've seen cookies.I saw someone reminding me to take care of myself. He remembered me as a young man sweeping floors and emptying trash cans in labels and radio stations, working for those little bags out of the office snack box because I couldn't afford much else. Letting me sleep in warehouses or basements of labels when I was homeless.

He wanted me to see the boy who dreamed bigger than his hands could reach. They called me the "trash boy", he always said, yes but he is our little trash boy.

I still remember him calling in to speak at my homecoming he was out promoting The Bodyguard with Whitney and Kevin Costner and couldn't make it to Granite Falls. He made sure to be part of my first gold record from Arista, and my hometown's first ever key to the city given to me in 1993.And through every chapter on my journey, he never treated me differently than the kid he met from the beginning. He stood with me when it was easier to stand somewhere else.

I sure will miss my friend, RIP Clive Davis by @drrickhendrix

Wow what a nice surprise from my work over a decade ago. Out of all the artist I’ve worked with I miss Whitney Houston the most. We use to laugh at North Gate in NJ about the trials. Another 88million selling album award from Sony and Whitney Houston. She will always be my favorite and carry my heart 💙❤️. WHITNEY IS THE FIRST AFRICAN AMERICAN ARTIST TO SELL OVER 10million COPIES OF THREE ALBUMS!! 🙏💪
