Phrases I try to use with patients, in the hope they are comforting for them 🫂

I’m still learning every day what it means to sit with someone in their worry or uncertainty. I don’t always have the perfect words, but I try to be mindful of the ones I choose.

I always start by introducing myself because being known as a person rather than just a number, helps make the interaction and connection hold more value.

I try to use phrases such as “I understand” when it’s something I truly know, and “I appreciate…” when it’s something I may not have experienced myself, but can still recognise the weight of.

I often say, “Let’s figure this out together,” because no one should feel alone at their most vulnerable.

I also always try to remind them that they did the right thing by coming in to get checked, because seeking help isn’t easy.

These aren’t grand gestures, but rather small attempts to make the room feel a little safer. I hope they help, even in ways I may never fully see.

I hope we can all aim to grow to keep being mindful of what we say and how we say it 🫂❤️
