The Longevity Edit, Canada Edition: six health stories worth knowing this week.

Heart attack testing is finally accounting for women, with sex-specific troponin thresholds.

A major national study found Black Canadians face higher odds of severe maternal complications, across income levels and immigration status.

Provinces are warning of a $1.2 billion mental health funding cliff.

Canadians want AI in healthcare, just not at the expense of their data.

Young men’s mental health is moving in the wrong direction.

And Clara Hughes is talking about the side of menopause we rarely hear about.

The through-line?

Health care is getting more honest about who it was built for, and who it is leaving out.

There’s no shortage of longevity news but these three stopped me in my tracks.

šŸ‡¦šŸ‡Ŗ Dubai made longevity the law.
šŸ¦ Singapore’s HSBC added longevity to its wealth portfolio.
šŸŽ“ Harvard added longevity to its curriculum.

When governments, banks, and universities are all moving in the same direction at the same time that’s not a trend. That’s a shift. by @drsapna

In 2026, longevity became a $9 billion industry.
Two-thirds of it went to 10 companies. 90% male-founded.

Here’s what that same industry runs on: women doctors delivering the care. Women consumers paying for the products. Female founders building the protocols.
1-2% of the capital. For all of it.

I’ve spent 20 years inside healthcare watching this gap not close. The data isn’t new. The pattern isn’t new. What’s new is how much money is now flowing through it.

I’m not writing about the gap. I’m building in it.

A Japanese beer giant just agreed to pay C$2.5 billion for @jamiesoncanada, the green-cap vitamin brand that’s been in Canadian medicine cabinets since 1922.

Why would a brewer want vitamins? Because @kirinbrewery_en_official has now bought the top supplement brand on three continents in three years. Beer is shrinking. Daily wellness rituals are growing. This is a century-old company planning its second century.

Wellness is the new succession plan. Swipe for the numbers. 🧵

Six health stories worth knowing this week.

Ontario just rewrote the rules for nurses who inject Botox and filler.

A Palm @jumeirah villa is selling longevity for AED 85 million.

Jennifer Aniston wants fitness to have a new category: Movement Longevity.

Investors are backing an attempt to lengthen telomeres.

@lorealgroupe is turning into a beauty VC.

And Ozempic is changing the @mcdonalds menu.

The through-line?

Longevity is no longer a clinic conversation. It is showing up in regulation, real estate, fitness, venture capital and fast food, all in the same week.

Interesting is not the same as proven. That distinction matters.

The wellness industry just hit $6.8 TRILLION. Bigger than sports. Bigger than tourism.

The usual explanation? ā€œPeople lost faith in medicine.ā€

Wrong. Among Canadians who have a family doctor, satisfaction is at a record high, 84%. Meanwhile 5.9 million adults in Canada have no regular doctor at all, and half the country says access is difficult or impossible.

People didn’t stop believing in medicine. They stopped having access to doctors.

When no one manages your whole health, you buy it piece by piece. That’s the boom.

Sometimes the best opportunities are the most obvious ones.

Put thousands of women in one room and talk to them about something that will actually matter in their lives: hormones, perimenopause, menopause, metabolic health, strength, sexual health.

Women’s health shouldn’t be niche marketing.

It’s just good marketing. by @drsapna

The clinical line on low iron just moved.

A new wearable has moved from the wrist to the bra.

Perimenopause just got its own supplement aisle.

That distinction matters.

A year ago, @circlehealthca was still in just the planning phase. Today, we’re gearing up to open our first set of doors in a few short weeks and wrapping up an amazing inaugural season as a founding partner of Canada’s first-ever WNBA team, @torontotempo. Building in healthcare means playing the long game — grateful we get to do it alongside a team that’s doing the same.

Here’s to Year 1! šŸ€šŸ§”āœØ by @drsapna

Comment DROP, and I’ll send you the full breakdown, sources included.

Six things happening in health and longevity right now.

šŸ‡ØšŸ‡¦ Canada just named healthcare its ā€œfirst missionā€ for AI — but Ontario’s own Auditor General found 60% of approved AI scribe tools captured the wrong prescribed drug, and 45% fabricated information that was never said in the room.

šŸ‘‚ A wearable company is putting a hormone sensor behind your ear. Not a blood draw, but a temperature pattern that tracks alongside estrogen, LH, and progesterone across your cycle.

šŸ“±@apple is about to let you order a 50+ biomarker blood panel through your iPhone, with results flowing straight into the same app that already knows your sleep and heart rate. US only for now.

🧠 A new wearable wants to give your brain a ā€œfocus score,ā€ using EEG behind your ear. $499 to preorder, plus a monthly subscription, before anyone’s proven attention can be reduced to a number.

šŸļø @equinox just opened its first hotel outside the US, on Saudi Arabia’s Red Sea coast. Longevity isn’t living in clinics anymore. It’s checking into resorts.

🩺 Ontario recruited 570 American doctors last year. Canada is still short more than 23,000 family physicians. Recruitment isn’t retention.

The pattern this week: the tools are moving faster than the oversight. That’s not automatically a problem. It just means someone needs to be watching.

Longevity, minus the noise.

I’m not saying your @ouraring knows you better than your doctor.

I’m not not saying it either. šŸ‘€

The future probably isn’t your wearable replacing your doctor. 🩺

It’s your doctor having access to a much richer picture of what’s happening between appointments. šŸ‘€ by @drsapna
