The group family chat: “are you coming to dinner?”
Me: “on my way after this baby” 😅

It’s a lot of missed moments…
but also the most meaningful ones.

If you’ve ever had a doctor show up for you in a moment like this… you get it 🤍

As a survivor of postpartum depression (PPD) and anxiety (PPA), I know how heavy those moments can feel. It breaks my heart to think of moms who struggle without the support they need. I feel incredibly blessed to have found my way through, and now, I’ve made it my mission to help other moms avoid PPD and PPA.

Through personalized postpartum care, I support you, meet you where you are, and help make the newborn stage one you can actually enjoy.

If you know a mom who might be struggling or could benefit from extra support, please share this post. Let’s build a community where no mom feels alone. 💛

Pregnant women are already constantly worrying about their well-being and that of their baby. Don’t add to their load.

Tell me things you were told while pregnant that freaked you out!

I know a lot of moms feel kids aren’t ready for these conversations, but I respectfully disagree. 💬

We underestimate our children. 🧠✨

There’s no one right way to do this. Every family finds its own approach.

👇 Drop a comment: How do you talk to your child about consent?

There’s a part of medicine we don’t talk about enough.

Doctors have lives outside the hospital.

We are mothers, daughters, wives, friends. We have people we worry about. Things that weigh on us. Nights we don’t sleep enough. Days when we’re tired, emotional, overwhelmed or simply human.

And then the phone rings.

A patient needs you.

Last night, mine rang in the middle of the night. A first-time mom was having her baby.

And somewhere on the drive to the hospital, I thought about something I’ve learned over all these years in medicine:

Whatever is happening in my life, this moment belongs to her.

She deserves my attention. My excitement. My reassurance. My presence. She deserves me.

And I gave her that.

A few hours later, I watched two people become parents for the first time. And even after all these years, there is something about being invited into that moment that reminds me how much I love what I do.

But driving home, I thought about the other side of this.

Women are so good at showing up.

We show up for our patients. We show up for our children. We show up for our partners, our parents, our friends. We go to work. We make dinner. We remember the permission slips and the appointments and who needs what tomorrow.

And sometimes we become so good at being present for everyone else that we forget there is another person who needs some of that care too.

Us. 🙏

Being strong doesn’t mean never feeling tired. Being professional doesn’t mean being unaffected by life. And taking care of other people doesn’t mean we should endlessly put ourselves last.

Sometimes taking care of yourself looks like a nap. Sometimes it’s exercise. Therapy. Prayer. A good cry. Dinner with a friend. Saying no. Or simply sitting still long enough to ask yourself, How am I doing?

I will always show up for my patients. I will always show up for my family.

I’m just learning that showing up for myself deserves a place on that list too. by @drschellcares

Today, we’re celebrating the women behind the medicine. 🤍

Women who have spent years learning, training, growing, and showing up for their patients; through routine visits, difficult conversations, surgeries, deliveries, milestones, and everything in between.

Each brings her own perspective, personality, and strengths to the care she provides, and together, they’re part of what makes FemCare what it is.

To the women in medicine who continue to lead, advocate, educate, and care: today we celebrate you. 💕

And to the women and families who trust our physicians with their care, thank you for allowing them to be part of your stories!

Drop a 🤍 below for our amazing women physicians!

September is basically week 38 of pregnancy and we all know it.

You’re not “excited for fall,” you’re overdue. Every year. Swollen ankles = swamp-sweat at 8am. Nesting instinct = buying pumpkin candles you can’t light yet because it’s 91°. Everyone keeps asking “any signs of it cooling down?” like you have some kind of insider info. You don’t. You’re just standing in the driveway staring at the sky, willing a cold front into existence.

And just like week 38, you know it’s coming — the calendar says so, the pumpkin spice lattes have already arrived (early, showing off) — but your body (and the weather app) refuses to cooperate. You waddle through the last two weeks of summer eating soup in 90 degree heat out of sheer defiance, boots already bought, sweater already washed, just... waiting.

Any day now. Any day.

In case you missed it — ‘trad wife’ is short for traditional wife, the internet trend of women romanticizing stay-at-home domestic life: baking bread from scratch, submitting to their husbands, no career outside the home. Nothing wrong with choosing that life. But let’s be clear about what it’s not — it’s not the only version of womanhood, and it’s definitely not mine.

I’m an OB/GYN. I’ve been on my feet since sunrise delivering babies, running clinic, holding space for other women’s hardest days. My husband and I split the bills — because that’s what partnership looks like. And my version of ‘homemaking’? Hiring help so I’m not scrubbing floors after a 12 hour shift.

Strong working moms aren’t a rebellion against tradition — we ARE the tradition. Women have always worked, always led, always found smart ways to hold it all together. The only ‘new’ part? Now it’s a 24-year-old with a ring light selling it back to us as a personality. 💅

Apparently I’ve been delivering babies since 1987 😂👩🏻‍⚕️

OB looked a little different in the ’80s… and I’m not just talking about the hair.

In 1980, about 16.5% of U.S. births were by C-section.
By 1987: 24.4%.
Today: about 1 in 3 births.

C-sections save lives. Full stop. ❤️
But that doesn’t mean every C-section is necessary.

One of the goals in modern obstetrics is to safely lower the primary C-section rate—supporting vaginal birth when appropriate, allowing adequate time for labor to progress, and avoiding that first C-section when it can safely be avoided.

Because sometimes the safest delivery is a C-section.
And sometimes the best thing we can do is give labor a little more time.

The hair got smaller. The C-section rate got bigger. And now we’re working on bringing that rate back down—safely. 😉
