life has felt so heavy & hard lately. i return to something i remind my spiritual guidance clients of often - joy is not happiness. joy is definitely not the absence of conflict or stress. it’s deep presence with all that is. it’s the ability to hold the depths of your suffering and grief in the same hands, the same body that can witness all the magic and beauty of life.

grateful to this gorgeous creature for spending a couple minutes with me the other day, for reminding me of all the beauty 💛

father of 2! by @drshawndeez

How do we explore the possibility of having a child when the world feels so heavy? 🥺

👉 This is one of the questions I asked parent and spiritual mentor, @drshawndeez, in Episode 71 of The Kids or Childfree Podcast.

I loved the tenderness in which they explored this with me — that yes, the world is a scary and painful place to navigate — and yet there is also so much beauty, and abundance, and joy.

Having a child is a radical act of hope in a world tells us to be scared and small.

While it parenthood is certainly not the right path for everyone, the beautiful perspective that shawndeez shared made me feel gratitude that people like them are raising thoughtful, conscientious, and loving humans. 💛

What does the world expect of you? 🤔

For most cisgender heterosexual women the answer is, “To become a mom!” — but the norms and pressures society thrusts upon us may differ greatly if we’re queer or trans.

As Episode 71 guest, @drshawndeez, shares — no one expected that they’d ever have kids, and that becoming a parent flew in the face of everything they were supposed to be and do.

This conversation with shawndeez touches on so many important and powerful parts of the Kids or Childfree choice —

✨ The spiritual journey of becoming a parent
✨ Gender expectations and norms
✨ How we can connect with and trust our deepest desires
✨ Having kids in a scary and uncertain world

I absolutely love all the wisdom shawndeez shares, and their unique perspective as a spiritual guide and Ph.D in gender studies has us unpacking and exploring the Kids of Childfree choice in new and thought-provoking ways!
