We spend so much time chasing better numbers.

Lower cholesterol. Better glucose. More muscle. Better sleep scores. A younger biological age.

And those numbers can matter.

But health was never supposed to become the destination.

It is what gives us the ability to stay at the table longer. To travel. To garden. To play with our children and grandchildren. To keep doing the ordinary things that make a life feel like ours.

I stopped believing that a beautiful life had to be an expensive one. I’m starting to think the same about health.

Not every healthy choice needs to be a HIIT workout, another supplement, or something to optimize.

Sometimes it’s sitting still long enough to watch the hummingbirds. Some of the good stuff was never for sale.

September is healthy aging month. The older I get, the more I appreciate the things that aren’t particularly exciting or sexy to talk about.

Good food. Moving every day. Sleeping enough. Time outside. People you love. Growing something. Having a reason to get up in the morning.

There is extraordinary medicine. I have spent my career practicing some of it.

But not everything that keeps us well needs to be complicated.

Sometimes the boring stuff is still the good stuff.

As a Jersey girl, September 11th has never felt like a page in a history book.

It was a defining moment for our family. My husband nearly lost his life that day, and like so many families in New York and New Jersey, we learned how quickly an ordinary morning can become a before and an after.

Twenty-five years later, I still think about the lives lost, the families forever changed, and the people who simply went to work that morning and never came home.

Some days a skyline is just a skyline.

Today, it is a reminder.

We remember. 9/11/2001.
