Richard Pereira has gone to glory. 🥀

After being unreachable for several days, police and his landlord have found his body in his home. His brother is waiting on further updates from the coroner.

I will have a proper goodbye in me later, but for now just had to share the terrible news, so we can all be on the same page - at whichever stage grief finds us.

I searched for what to say when someone dies, in each of the faiths I knew him to practice:

Indeed, to Allah we belong and to Him we shall return. ☪️

Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord,
and let perpetual light shine upon them.
May the souls of all the faithful departed,
through the mercy of God, rest in peace.
Amen. ✝️

Good news, everyone!

My Covid test after day 10 came back negative! 🙌

Thank you to everyone for the well wishes, and the offerings of help. (I may take some of y'all up on some of that help, possibly even spanning out into some help me out parties, towards the tail end of the year.)

While I have your attention, do I know anybody who would like to caregive for a blind friend? She's just a bit older than me.

Her mom is looking for someone who is free from 2:30 to 4:30/5 on Wednesdays. Y'all could run errands, go for walks, or go to the gym with her if they want to get paid for getting exercise themselves. It's a pretty sweet deal.

It's frustrating to see AI search results saying the Paly flea market /has/ concluded already, when the LAST EVER PALY FLEA MARKET IS TOMORROW, 7/11, FROM 9-3!

I'm on the wait list and I'll know around 8:45 if I can secure a spot to set up or not.

Whoops! I knew I'd make that mistake eventually!

Mike's retirement party is TODAY, if you see this in the next few hours... Friends who wanna help blow this post up for visibility, feel free.

It's NOT next week, 6/27. That's when I'm throwing my friend's son's 11th birthday pool party (to which you are also all invited).

Anyway, that post has been fixed for the ages, but I've left the typo up in stories to explain the correction. (It was late, I was tired.)

A dear friend asked me yesterday, respectfully, what was so great about Middle College?

And I think the simplest answer is:

It was the school we got to choose, not the default that was assigned to us. It was the alternative option for those of us on either end of the bell curve of kids who actually did well in typical high schools. And it was run by adults who shirked convention enough to properly respect us and treat us like the fledgling baby adults we were becoming.

Because "life isn't about finding yourself, it's about creating yourself." And in this environment we were set up for far greater success to become the best versions of ourselves than we would have found anywhere else.

For me it was also the particular collection of people. I knew then experiencing it that it was a sacred time in my life I would always look back on with reverence and gratitude and even more nostalgia than normal.

Just like I said in my yearbook half page, which I currently can't find and it's driving me crazy, it gave me more time with some of the people I've loved the most in my life.

And, who knows, probably in other lives too.
