What a privilege to present at the beautiful Mount Nelson Hotel yesterday.
I spoke to colleagues about Epicelline, the epigenetic science behind it, and how it can be incorporated into an evidence-based skincare routine. Our skin’s genes don’t change, but the way they are switched on and off does. Understanding that opens up an exciting new chapter in how we think about skin ageing.

On 1 October, we celebrated the opening of Skinfocus with an evening shared with colleagues, friends and some of the wonderful people who have shaped dermatology over the years.

Delighted to share our latest paper in the International Journal of Infectious Diseases: “The great masquerader in bloom: corymbiform secondary syphilis in a Black African patient with HIV.” This rare presentation appears to be the first published report of corymbiform syphilis in a Black African patient.

Your sunscreen may be protecting your patients from UV but what about the light that’s making their pigmentation worse?

HEVL can penetrate the skin and contribute to oxidative stress and pigment production which may make pigmentation harder to control.

So for pigmentation-prone patients, we think beyond SPF alone!

📚 New publication!

Delighted to share our recently published systematic review and meta-analysis examining the prevalence and risk factors for scabies among children and adolescents across Africa. Across 35 studies involving more than 45,000 participants, the findings highlight the substantial burden of this neglected tropical disease and its close association with socioeconomic factors.

👏 A huge congratulations to Zunaid Ahmed, who led this important work. Well done, Zunaid — a fantastic achievement!
