Someone better check on that Carson kid.. it got pretty bad. This is what happens when people can’t be honest about the oppression of Black people in America and they show up to debate unprepared and spewing lies. #slavery #blackoppression #systemicracism #explore #fyp by @drwilljames

Sunset Speaks ✨

Three Black students reportedly arrested over alleged threats against President Donald Trump, and I have QUESTIONS! 😳

Let me be unequivocally clear: I do not condone threats of violence against ANYONE, including the president. But I also don’t condone selective enforcement of the law.

Because when does inflammatory political rhetoric become a criminal threat, and who gets to make that determination?

This is where constitutional literacy becomes indispensable.

In Watts v. United States (1969), the Supreme Court distinguished political hyperbole from a true threat. In Counterman v. Colorado (2023), the Court clarified that criminal punishment for threatening speech requires proof that the speaker was at least reckless regarding its threatening nature.

Disagreeable speech is not automatically criminal speech.

And while I appreciate Dr. William James bringing historical and constitutional context to this conversation, my concern extends beyond these arrests.

I’ve watched people across social media make similarly disturbing statements about political figures. So I want to understand whether the law is being applied consistently.

Because justice should never depend on the identity of the speaker or the political influence of the person being criticized.

The presidency deserves protection, absolutely. But constitutional protections and due process should not become negotiable simply because someone directs offensive rhetoric toward a powerful individual.

And elected officials should also be held accountable for their own inflammatory language.

We cannot normalize provocative political rhetoric from those in power while indiscriminately criminalizing it among the people they govern.

So I’ll ask you this… 🙋🏾‍♀️ Where should America draw the constitutional line between political hyperbole and a genuine threat, and are we enforcing that distinction equally?

Sunset Speaks ✨

These diaspora wars are becoming increasingly IMBECILIC! 😭

Before you open your mouth, nobody knows whether you’re Haitian, Jamaican, Bahamian, Nigerian or Black American. The world sees your Blackness before it hears your nationality.

And as a Haitian woman, I find it deeply disturbing how often anti-Black American rhetoric circulates within our immigrant communities.

You cannot inherit the benefits of somebody else’s resistance and then disrespect their resilience.

But I also want to bring attention to a painful chapter of Haitian history that deserves remembrance.

October 2–8 marks the anniversary period of the 1937 Parsley Massacre, when thousands of Haitians and people of Haitian descent were slaughtered in the Dominican Republic under the dictatorship of Rafael Trujillo.

People were targeted because of their Haitian ancestry, their language, their identity, and the anti-Haitian prejudice that had been institutionalized against them.

Imagine being murdered because somebody decided your ethnicity made you less deserving of humanity.

And THIS is why historical literacy matters!

Thank you to Dr. William James for joining us and explaining why telling Black Americans to simply “get over slavery” is such an intellectually bankrupt argument.

Slavery ended legally, but its consequences did not disappear with emancipation.

Jim Crow. Redlining. Disenfranchisement. Generational wealth disparities.

Historical oppression does not become irrelevant simply because the legislation that permitted it has changed.

As Haitians, we understand what it means to carry the consequences of historical injustice. So how can we demand that the world acknowledge our suffering while simultaneously dismissing the historical suffering of Black Americans?

Our histories are not identical, but our humanity is not negotiable.

We can honor our cultural distinctions without weaponizing them against one another.

So I’ll ask you this… 🙋🏾‍♀️ How can we demand historical recognition for our own people while telling other Black communities to forget what happened to theirs?

Foundational Black American Man Says FBA Is Not A New Thought Process and The Term “Native Blacks” Goes Back to the 1800’s! 👀
The U.S. Congressional Record used “native blacks” in 1879, and @drclaudanderson has used the term for decades.

Just respect the ethnicity of Black Americans who trace their lineage back several generations and hundreds of years in the United States of America. #fba #history #fyp #explorepage✨ by @drwilljames

The legacy of slavery and systemic racism is not something to simply ‘get over.’

It’s a continuous fight for justice and equality, a history that shaped present-day struggles and demands acknowledgment, not erasure.

The 1526 rebellion at San Miguel de Gualdape is often described as the first recorded rebellion by enslaved Africans on land that is now the United States.
It occurred approximately 93 years before the arrival of Africans in English Virginia in 1619 and 250 years before the United States declared independence in 1776. #fba #fyp #explorepage✨ #history @povafro @afrotv by @drwilljames

Black Wall Street in Tulsa, Oklahoma, was rebuilt after the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre. In fact, the Greenwood District experienced a significant economic recovery during the 1920s, 1930s, and 1940s.
One of the most overlooked facts about Black Wall Street is that the 1921 massacre did not permanently destroy Greenwood’s Black business community.
Survivors rebuilt their homes, churches, and businesses, often using their own resources despite enormous financial losses and obstacles.
However, Greenwood later suffered another major setback when urban renewal projects and highway construction displaced residents and demolished businesses. #fba #blackwallstreet #history #fyp #explore @my_roque @sunsetmonae @natalyasinfluence by @drwilljames

We must start building our own institutions and resources: banks, schools, farms, supermarkets, libraries, hospitals, restaurants, clothing stores, apartment complexes and more.
