A dream I didn’t know to dream when I was growing up in India, watching my grandmother, Thathi, care for her skin each night, never imagining those small moments would one day inspire a message I’d share on the @tedxboston stage.

Incredibly grateful for the opportunity to bring dermatology to the TEDx stage and share a message that I care deeply about: skin is too often the forgotten organ in conversations about health and longevity.

Skinspan offers a window into how we age, our overall health, and potentially our longevity.

The link to this series of TEDxBoston talks will be shared when available. Thank you Davey B, John Werner, Emily C, Ami B, Dan H, Imagination in Action and WHOOP team for bringing these dreams to life, and new ideas to humanity. by @drwyles.derm

Want to extend your skinspan? It starts with small, consistent habits. The power of small habits can drive holistic behavior change, discipline, and lifestyle modifications. I often tell my patients that starting at the level of the skin makes it seem feasible about what we can achieve for systemic wellness.

Three years ago, we introduced the word Skinspan™️ at my laboratory at Mayo Clinic and began sharing the idea of skin longevity with the world. This concept is trademarked by Mayo Clinic and made its public debut at the L’Oréal Skin Alliance in Paris last year. History matters, but let’s keep pushing the science forward, together.

Our latest publication in Mayo Clinic Proceedings defines Skinspan™️ as the healthy functional and structural longevity of the skin (its sustained optimal performance over time). The skin, our largest and most externally exposed organ, mirrors systemic aging. Sun, stress, and time chip away at skin resilience, but science shows we can slow it down.

By extending Skinspan™️(the healthspan of the skin) we move closer to improving overall longevity.

Skin is your “check engine” light. I spoke with @aarp about where your body holds stress, and the skin is often one of the first places it shows up, as dryness, irritation and that crepey, paper-thin look after 50.

My advice: moisturize your body twice a day, get persistent rashes checked, and treat stress reduction as part of your skincare. Your challenge? Try to moisturize your body at least three times this week.

Clocks fall back this Sunday. It sounds like an extra hour of sleep, but research suggests most of us lose sleep over the week that follows. Your skin runs on its own clock too, and poor sleep is linked to slower barrier repair and more visible signs of aging.

Are we aging our skin faster than we need to?

Skin care is healthcare. Your skin is your largest organ, and it may be one of the first places your biology starts talking back. Changes in texture, tone and how well it repairs itself can tell us a lot about what’s happening underneath.

Caring for your skin isn’t vanity. It’s paying attention. Link in bio for the full episode on @themelrobbinspodcast ! by @drwyles.derm

A little girl from Tamil Nadu never imagined this.

Standing here with Mel, I kept thinking about my parents, the sacrifices they made, the opportunities they gave me, and the belief that education could change the trajectory of a life. Education did. That is the American dream.

Now I get to spend my career asking how science can help us live, and age, better. This one meant a lot. I hope this reaches all the girls in Tamil Nadu, and around the world. Keep learning, keep disrupting ❤️ by @drwyles.derm
