The trout cooperated today. First on tiny little mayflies, then on big chunky beetles. #flyfishing#browntrout#springcreek#driftless by @dryflytrout

“I wonder how many more of these we have left”
My mom’s words hit me really hard. We had just finished a great dinner at their favorite restaurant to celebrate their 63rd Anniversary. She doesn’t know I heard her say it. She was quietly talking to my dad while we were waiting for the check. I was sneaking some photos while they talked. Helping aging parents can be tough. It’s also rewarding. Whatever it is, they deserve it all. These two are amazing. by @dryflytrout

It’s been exactly 1 year. This is the last photo I took of Murphy the day before he left us. 24 hours later, after more than 14 years, he had given us everything he had left in the tank. Man he was a good one.

The adipose fin is small but often one of the coolest on a trout.

The mayflies have been hatching consistently and the trout have responded. Fishing has been very good.

I don’t catch many brook trout like this one. It took a size 22 Blue Winged Olive floated over a shallow riffle. Good way to finish up the early trout season. Looking forward to warmer days and more bugs as the regular season opens up.

Finished up my trout season yesterday and this was the view as I walked along the river back to my car. The fields, canyons and valleys this river flows through are amazing. Looking forward to getting back over there next year.

The trout have been pretty cooperative in the afternoons lately.

Murphy’s leash has been hanging from this doorknob for over 14 years. Usually the door is open and the leash is “hidden” against the wall. This weekend it was closed and I saw the leash again for the first time since he left us a month ago. His bed is gone. His food and water bowls are gone. I think I’ll leave his leash right there. Not that we’ll ever forget him, but it’s a nice reminder.

The streams are in great shape right now and the trout are eager to take a variety of flies. Wading a favorite stretch of water and landing a few fish is a nice way to tune out all the “noise”.
