Some Memories Can’t Be Replaced

There are thousands of photographs on our phones that mean far more to us than we realise.

First smiles. Family days. Tiny moments you’d give anything to go back and see again.

Some memories are simply too important to leave on a screen.

Print them. Keep them. Pass them on.

When I say our jaws were on the floor !!! Thank you to the team at @dscolourlabs for giving us a disposable camera and then doing the fastest development time on record ????? You made the reveal so special to us xox

End of November we hosted a community fashion show in withington alongside the incomparable @mockingbirdsmanchester & @sandbarwithington organised by @withingtonbaths to raise money for Maggie’s a charity that helps people battling cancer ❤️⭐️

The night was so joyous as it was a time to celebrate the gorgeous people who make the local community of Withington so special ✨ and that beauty shines thru on the the pictures xox

Safia Touray (@safia.touray) is a medium format portrait photographer whose work is led by instinct, curiosity, and care. She’s also a regular customer with us, which makes sharing her work even more special. 🎞️📷

“I studied film at university and originally wanted to be a director, but I was always more drawn to the visual elements.” That pull led her towards still photography. “I sold my digital camera, walked into a camera shop, and saw a Mamiya RB67. I knew I had to have it.”

From the first roll, film became central to how she works. “Film allows me to slow down and work with intention. When I’m out, I see faces and places differently. Everything becomes beautiful.” Living with ADHD, the process itself feels grounding. “Loading my camera and even dropping film off at the lab is therapeutic. It’s taught me to be present.”

“I shoot instinctively. I see something I like and go from there. Everything you see is a result of my subconscious interests.”

We at DSCL would like to offer our heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Martin Parr.

A crucial figure to the development of British photography, and one that studied his craft here in Manchester. He will be missed.

Having printed for Parr many times over the years, we were lucky enough to have caught a glimpse of his working process.

The team has selected their favourites of his catalogue to share today.

Meet Liam @ginger_snaps.jpg , a film photographer who values the slower, more thoughtful process of shooting analogue 🎞️. For him, film offers a different way of seeing: paying attention, taking time, and appreciating real moments. Here’s what keeps him coming back to film, in his own words 📸:

"I shoot film because it gives me a chance to slow down and really be present. I love capturing moments, people and places, and feeling like I’m preserving the beauty in everyday life. There’s something about the warmth, the grain and the unpredictability that makes every frame feel precious.

I also love the physical side of it, the sound of the shutter and the simple act of winding on to the next frame. Film lets me hold onto the small details and experiences I might otherwise overlook."
